Hi,

Can anyone recommend a cheap method for me to connect via a modem to the internet whilst in Florida.

I will be at Disney World and a couple of other hotels later this month, all of which have data sockets on their phones - so I need a cheap and easy way to dial into the Internet.

Thanks.

A friend uses http://www.access-4-free.com when visiting her father in Florida. They have a TON of access numbers all over the place and the price is pretty good, max of $10 per month. She's a gamer, which means she has used it for lengthy connections without trouble.

I haven't had a need to use it yet, but I've kept the information just in case I'm away from home or in case someone else is looking for something like this.

Thanks - I am guessing you then just pay whatever the hotel charges for a local call? Are there any free phone services that anyone knows of? (which I am guessing will be free to call from the hotel, and might be cheaper in the long run)

Many hotels have free local calls, otherwise they charge you a flat fee per call, usually under a dollar, then again, I don't get out much, so it's probably changed.

I'd expect that if you look at the area code on the phone in the room you get, and compare it to the list, you should easily find a local access number for the ISP.

Good luck!

I might get shot for saying this but why not just go with AOL for the month. its free and you can cancel it whe you get home. they have one of the largest phone number databases. A friend of mine went to africa and found she can access AOL from there.

I had a very bad experience with AOL when they were still "young", probably around 1994 or 1995. I'll never recommend them to anyone.

I also know a lot of people who use it still and complain about it. I'm a little biased.

Ian - check carefully the cost of a call while at Disney. Their phone rates are very pricey. The "Budget" resorts are exceptionally pricey. They will show you rates and usualy have you initial phone rates when you check in. If not, ask.

Thanks guys - not sure if AOL will allow me to sign up, with a UK address, whilst in the US. I am sure that they charge roaming costs if I belong to the UK side (not sure though)

I will check their rates Josh - or maybe I can put it all on your account there

Are you capable of using broadband or wireless? More and more motel chains are offering this at no extra cost now. I'm seeing more billboards with this selling point for the motels/hotels.

One of the hotels, I will be staying in does this for $9.95 per night, via a wireless network - so not too bad - especially if it works in the bar
