Allen, You asked in the other thread whether it was something I added. No. It wasn't.

I recently upgraded from UBBThreads 6.1.1 to UBBThreads 6.5.5

Before the upgrade, my users could go into their preferences and could check the box to be notified by email about any responses to their posts.

This sent email notices to them about responses to any post they made in any thread, anywhere, anytime.

In 6.5.5 we seem to have lost that option. Now, you have to click the box in each thread, if you want to be notified of responses in that thread.

This makes absolutely no difference to the majority of my users.

However, there is a vocal minority which includes one of the site co-owners... who want it back the way it used to be. They are threatening revolt !!

The current option is to go into your prefences and click the bubble beside "Do you want all replies to your favorite topics emailed to you?" to "yes". Then, you can click the box inside each thread to add it to your "favorites".

My people don't want to have to be clicking in every thread that they want a notice for. They want to go back to the old way of just clicking once in their preferences to accept email notification of all responses to anything they have posted anywhere.

Those that don't want to be getting emails all the time could unclick the box in their preferences, and not recieve email notices of responses to their posts.

I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place here. Those who want notices for every response to every post they ever make are VERY adamant.

And if I use your tweak from the other thread, then EVERYONE will get emails for every response to every post they ever make. And that will start an uproar on the opposite side.

What can I do ?

Thank you.

smile

hmm... ask them to click in the threads they want to get replies from? smile I believe they can subscribe to entire forums as well to get a daily digest of all posts in that forum, you'll need to set up a cron task for it tho. As for how 6.1 acted, I don't remember that, but it's been more than a few years since 6.1 was released wink

That's pretty much the point, Allen.

They do not want to have to click in every thread. They want to click once in their profile, and from that point on, get a notice of every reply to only their own posts.

They also do not want to be getting a "digest" of replies to every post in the thread.

Yeh, our regulars are as close to luddites as you can get and still get on the computer. LOL They grumble about any change. That's the reason why an upgrade was put off for as long as it was. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

But now the email notify thing is majorly broke according to the users...
