Google Webmasters' HTML IMPROVEMENT page is reporting to me that I've duplicate title tags in my forum pages.
Is there any code or hack available to change this to the title of the actual post, the way the recent hack to have properly named and hyphenated HTML pages for each post did?

If you have a few people creating topics such as, "Help!" or "question." or for that matter, any user generated content, you are bound to have duplicate page titles.
Another thing that could trigger duplicate titles is multi-page topics in UBBT. As of right now, UBBT doesn't state the page number in the page title. Because users can customize how many topics per page they want to see, adding "Page #" to the title wont be helpful.
For reference, one of my forums that has slightly over 50,000 topics, Google WMT reports the following information -
SEO is more than just about title tags, it also includes the page content, its layout and how easy it is to read across multiple device display sizes -- in addition to page speed optimizations and site age, and quite a few other factors.
But unique, helpful titles could definitely help people searching for particular content, find the content they may want.
Well, you'd think "page number" would simply reflect for the guest user, which would be the defaults, then for a logged in user simply drop the page id (since it'd be based on user preference; or we could just calculate it based on the dataset presented )
These are Page 1,2,3,4 of the "Announcements" forum.
As a side note, Stock UBBT 7.5.8 does not come with a "description" line in the header.tpl file.
Common items in 2014 that stock UBBT 7.5.8 does not come with: meta name="robots" meta id="viewport" meta name="keywords" meta name="description"
For a few years now, Google has said that they dont use meta keywords for ranking. Its not necessary to set a viewport on UBBT since its not optimized for mobile, out of the box. But setting one should be done, so your text doesnt get "font boosted" incorrectly by Mobile Chrome. Robots? Do you want your stuff cached or archived in different engines? this would be one of the place where you could tell the spiders what you want done.
