You'll prolly need to change your Members path....

Something just hit me...

This is going to be inaccurate. What about boards that prune? They'll have an artificially inflated post count.

The total number of posts EVER made (through profiles) shouldn't be counted - the total number of posts, PERIOD, should.

This is a great hack but is there anyway to give you just the number of posts that are still active?

Ulimate.cgi gives you the total number of posts for each category. Is there anyway to just add these totals up and then display them as one number?

I have totals of over 500,000 and it takes about 2 minutes for the server to return a total as it is written.

Thanks,
Parker

I've been asked this before.
Again, it IS possible, but I personally don't know how to do this, since I'm not that good at perl, and haven't learned UBB all the way yet [Linked Image] [Linked Image]

100% accurate. Counts the posts and topics in all OPEN forums.

You can place the blurb elsewhere in Ultimate.cgi, but it may not perform as advertised... *L*

Great hack as usual. Just what I was looking for. Works like a charm. The only other thing that would be great to add is the ability to show you the total number of posts that have been made in the last 24 hours too.

You really should submit this to Ted to include in the release version.

Thanks again for a great hack.

Well, this particular version of the hack is a bit more intense than Dave's, and would add enough load to the stock UBB to make it a 'problem'...

I'll see what I can do about the past 24 hours... I might need to rework the Today's Active Topics bit.

Charles:

I have a fairly large site with 9,300 members so your hack works for our site better as I really only want to see the active message count and not a total of all the messages that have been posted. This takes, on our board, about 2 minutes to compile as its total is about 500,000.

Im not sure where this hack pulls its information from, but it shows me having a total of 10 posts when I only have 1 post total on my site?? Where is it getting its info?

Thanks,

Rage: Be sure that you're counting the number of POSTS, not threads.

Me2Be: It will count ANY forum that is ON. If the forum is off, it won't be counted.

Ha! I just figured out my problem. The file 000001 or whatever that is my members folder had me listed as having posted 8 topics. (I probally have but i have deleted them cause they were just tests) Thats why it was showing 10!

Thanks all!

Dave,

I just added this hack and I am getting an Internal Server Error.

I ran the Ultimate.cgi from a Unix prompt and I get an error message with this line:

open (MEMBFILE, "<../../Ultimate_BBS/Members/memberslist.cgi") or die ("Can't open file: $MembersPath/memberslist.cgi!");

It's telling me it can't find the users file.

My UBB is located in /cgi-bin/Ultimate_BBS
and the users directory and forum variable files are located at /Ultimae_BBS. All web based files are lcoated at /public_html/Ultiamte_BBS.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Errr...the reason that the last person to register does not show with this hack is because it is a hack for total post count [Linked Image] [Linked Image] [Linked Image]

You need the 'last person to register' hack which is on this site.

See them both in action at www.ravensnest2.com/ubb/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi

This hack is bugged, once your member total exceeds 1000 it wil cause a server error. I have posted this on other UBB hack sites and yet to get anyone to address the bug. I wish I knew how but I don't, so be warned once all the UBB boards hit 1000 members this hack will cause the Ultimate.cgi to error and make your BBS unusable until the code is removed.

Hack worked fine for me after I corrected my boo-boo.

I have over 2300 members, with no problems that I'm aware of.

Ok, just so you all know, I'm a major newbie at this stuff. I've put in other hacks before and such, but when I put CC's in and then replace the current $MemberLine with
Code
code:
I get a Internal Server 500 Error. HELP!!?!?!?!?!?

I used CC's code and inserted it above print <
$BBName - powered by the Ultimate Bulletin Board like I was supposed to, but ugh!

BTW I'm on 5.44a

Hi Jake,

Well, don't put the code above INTROHTML...
put it right above the following:

Code
code:

After that, it will work.

I have 5.44b and no matter where I put the initial code, I get an ISE. I assume that Charles Capp's addon code is not a stand alone and must be implemented with Dave's original code, but the conflict that I am having is that when I put n Dave's code, where exactly am I supposed to put it?

After the substitue all required files statement? or after
"require "ubb_library.pl";"

I'm just getting the error....and I wanna get rid of it.
