Sorry to interupt you, but, in your instruction, you wrote cmod the smilies.cgi to 777, but here, you wrote 755. What's the right? I did install, but error 500.

Does anybody know, how to prevent that the smilies.cgi saves smiliecodes with a "<" or a ">" in it ??? ------------------ Grüße aus Deutschland / Greatings from Germany Leisure Larry Homepage: Catan & Stonehedge - Multiplayerz vs. HTML UBB: ALLinONE , the german UBB for Freeware-Hacks

Did it all. (but it realy needs a decent manual) and now I get this error.
CGI Error The specified CGI application misbehaved by not returning a complete set of HTTP headers. The headers it did return are: Unrecognized character 320 at C:Inetpububbsmilies.cgi line 1.
I used the smilie code on the test server (w98 + PWS).
The real server is IIS4. But I did not implement the smilies hack yet.

Just found a problem. If you install that hack, and specify that all smilies are in, say, ubb/smilies, than the smilies that were in /ubb will screwe up, since they won't be there any more. Even if you update threads, the location of smilie in thread won't change. ------------------ Thanks for reading! Ilya Administrator of Ubb Code Hackers Hideout Moderator of UBB Hacks Finished

ok - i did the hack - i followed all the steps as far as i know. I seem to have two problems...
1. When i go into smilie settings on the control panel, it lists only the ones that have code like ':-o' or something. but when i go into to check the list - it lists all of them that are in my smilies folder. (the first time i opened smilie settings it listed them all, i didnt delete any, but after that it only listed the ones that had text codes.
2. when i go in to post either new topics or replies - the message icon still only includes the basic ones that are in my icons folder. the instructions dont say anything about what to do with the ones in the icons folder. do they get moved to the smilies folder too?

Icons and smilies are 2 different things! This hack lets you configure SMILIES (i.e. the ones that you put using : ) or ; D ) Icons are just included with the message, and to add more, you just put them into icons dir and name them icon 20.gif, icon 21.gif, icon22.gif etc. ------------------ Thanks for reading! I feel so dumb. I can't seem to get this to work. I did everything as far as I can see. My two problems are as follows:
1. I get the smilies control panel, but when I click on View current Icons, I get:
The requested URL /smilies.cgi was not found on this server.
2. When I go to add smilies, I get user name not found.
Could anyone help?

Make sure you've configured the path to smilies.cgi in your general settings area.

Okay, 5.45c, I seemingly installed everything cool, but it's late and I may have been a retard somewhere here...
Everything was going cool, upped everything, it all appeared in cp.html ok, got to the point where I was about to upload some new smilies to test it out, when I received a message from one of my users saying that after they replied, the postings.cgi screen came up blank. I tried it and this was indeed true. Anybody know offhand why this would happen?
I re-upped the backups for functionality's sake, and am ready to go to sleep, but if anybody knows off the top of their head what I may have missed or mistyped to get this (maybe even a wrong CHMOD?) I would appreciate a heads-up to save some stress.
Thanks all.

Does anyone know if the hack will work with 5.45c or will I just have to find the codes in a different file?

I'm currently having the problem with the edit page appearing blank. ( As the person above is experienceing) I'm also having a problem with the smiles I add not displaying.
I have UBB version 5.42a. I have your Smilies hack and the Auto-Updating Smilies Legend hack to complete it.

BlueMoon: Yes this hack worked with 5.45c
Squall14: the edit page became a blank page? you mean the smilies.cgi? if it's yes, then you need to get the update script.
Bartman: you might want to check smilies path..make sure you have the right path or else the smilies won't display correctly..also make sure you have smilies directory in NonCGI directory...for the problem with the blank page, use the update smilies scripts...

squall14: I think there is a problem in your postings.cgi...you might miss out some codes or did you edit the postings.cgi like the instruction said?
bartman: you have same problem with squall14...the problem is from the postings.cgi...did you replace all of the smilies subroutine with the new one? etc...

I've got a problem, my postings.cgi is messed up. However this is nothing new, whenever I make a hack and it deals with postings.cgi I ALWAYS get a "Premature end of script" error. I don't understand.

I was having the same problem with the edit page showing up blank and it turned out it wasn't a problem in postings.cgi but a problem in ubb_library.pl so you may want to redo that file..

Fixed postings.cgi and now the smilies wont show up. If I change what to put for the smilies that already exist, it doesn't change them. It wont show the smilies that I add. When I go to edit my smilies they are there, but only the ones that were originally there show up, and they have to be made the way that they were originally made.
Anyone have any idea what I could do to fix that?

Is there a way to change in what order the smilies are stored as? For example. if one of my smilies is names :love and another one is :l , the :l works just fine but the :love turns out to be the :l smilie plus "ove" at the end. I fixed this problem by making the larger one :love get stored first when it was old ubb_library2.pl editing but I guess this new hack doesn't take that into effect. Can anybody help?

I've tried this hack, checked double, triple even quad times and get the same error. Everyone who posts post fine but no smilies are showing. (I know why). In the CP General settings cpanel2.cgi, when I enter the path for the smilies I get this error: Sorry! Your General Settings were not accepted
Here is what UBB found: and it will not accept any path I give it. Also I found a little funny. well in mine it's so where am I supposed to add $SmilieURL = "http://$ENV ?? here? Any help would be greatly appreciative. This message has been edited by NoCarrier on January 22, 2001 at 11:39 PM

You might wanna compare it to the coding in the latest code buttons, it was updated for the newer versions of the ubb.

I just added if ($SmilieURL eq '') { $SmilieURL = "http://$ENV{'HTTP_HOST'}/ubb"; } still no luck. In the smilie control panel (since it's looking for www.yourwebsite.com no default directory) for my smilies I just input ubb/smilies/smiliename.gif and the smile picture shows. Now the posts still don't work and there's not smilie button. Arg! ![[Linked Image]](https://ubbdev.com/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif)

Did you set your paths to your smilie folder in your general settings?
