Ok well I worked on this most of last night, and I think it's ready for release. What this hack does is allow you to have a page that lists the current times in other time zones/cities around the world to help users who may have trouble figuring out what times are being used on your board. You can see in action at:

http://www.vhlinks.com/cgi-bin/vhlforum/worldtime.cgi

Right now, you can only have up to 16 different time zones displayed, I will be working on changing that in the future, and also might look into some other uses for this hack. Yes, there is a newly created control panel so you can easily change the server time offsets and name the time zones whatever you want. Everything you need is included in the zip file below, make sure and follow the directions very carefully! Enjoy.

Have you looked into my suggested modification? See http://ubbcodehacking.com/ubb/Forum3/HTML/000027.html for details.

Great - why not changing the display of the times like:

7:33PM - 19:33

Just a thought!

Ok I just uploaded Version 1.1 of this hack. You can download the zip above again with the new version.

There are two basic changes.

1. I fixed a typo I found that was preventing people from having there first zone show up sometimes.

2. Added a toggle in the Time Zone control panel to allow you to display the times in 24-hour format instead of AM/PM if you want. Thanks to Stefan for the suggestion.

Well I think I've done what Cal wanted, put the times on the Ultimate.cgi page, but I need to clean up the code a bit. It's hard to make 16 time zones look good in a box on the Ultimate.cgi page, but I think it looks fairly easy to read now. I'll try to release the code for displaying it this way by Monday, but you can check it out on my board at:

Ok I've got version 1.2 up for download at the top of this thread. Here's the big change:

1. Time Zones and times now viewable in Ultimate.cgi at the bottom, as well as the worldtime.cgi page.

Everything else is the same. Download the 1.2 zip above.

Slurpee - great hack, we should install it here (Ilya...)

You should put the times in columns to make it more readable.

The name of city "Rio De Janeiro" is wrong. Correct is: Rio de Janeiro.

Other info:
The capital of Brazil is Brasília. And the most important city of Brazil is São Paulo.

Slurpee:

Great Hack. The only I would like to see is the retention of the information kept in the .file file instead of having to enter this each time.

This is a great hack and it comes at a great time for my site.

My problem is, I do not need to have 16 time zones, I really only need to have one. Sounds silly but all of my users go off of one clock... ZULU time (they are all pilots).

They have been requesting a clock on the forums for some time and I can not find one SSI program that will work properly with our site.

My question is: Can I delete all of the parts from this coding that are over and above the first time zone? or should I just install the complete works for safety and reliability?

I would also like to have the time display above the forums since I only need the one. If anyone can help, it would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Just one problem, the Sydney, Australia time is one hour fast.

This is understandable because we just finished daylight savings, so our clocks were turned back one hour, just yesterday. Maybe a daylight saving funtion could be added?

I agree with MasterMind here. Have the codes preloaded and you can change it if you want. Also, like I said earlier see if you can see the information that is written to the new .file file in the control panel.

Thanks,

The times I used are cities that are important to me, so if I didn't use cities you liked, that's why they are totally blank and are left for you to configure. A daylight savings time would work fine for US servers since that's where my server is, but obviously it doesn't know the times in Sydney for example, you'd have to fix those manaually. Also I like to use caps in my city names, hence Rio De Janeiro, not de. Whether that's offensive to some, I apologize, that's just how I like to display them. You can call them whatever you want.

Great script, found a few errors re: changes to Ultimate.cgi:

Entries for 6 and 9 will not show because:

Great hack Thanks Slurpee!

I also noticed two other small typo's a close font tag is missing for $tzformat15 and a close quote to display the world.gif.

I reformated the way it is displayed on Ultimate.cgi see it here http://www.dyno-tech.com/gcubb/Ultimate.cgi

If anyone want I will post the code I used to do it this way. I hope I didn't step on your toes editing this script Slurpee.

Thanks for catching the typos guys I will fix them!

Dynotech, feel free to post the code for that kind of display on the Ultimate.cgi, doesn't bother me, I'm just not a big fan of all those rows and columns on that main page. [Linked Image]

Thanks Slurpee,

I wanted something easier to read. It does take up a lot of room though. I was even thinking about a third column that would be used for DST info for each TZ. This would require another field in the CP and code. The DST's can be a pain. Each location does whatever they want. I would rather put in the rules for the DST's and let the user know they would have to add or subtract an hour or whatever the case may be. Then you would only have to change the server offset twice a year for the TZ the server is, if it was in a location the uses DST.

Ok here is the code to display the TZ name and day/time in two columns in Ultimate.cgi

You must have installed the "Remove Moderator Column Hack" else you will have to tweak the colspan entries somewhere by one for each $TimeZoneFormat variable.

Also this is on ver 1.2 of Slupees World Time Hack.

Code
code:

THATS IT. AGAIN if you do not have the moderator hack increase the colspan by 1.

In a perfect world:

the hack would look similar to it is on this board (all in one cell), but the times would be aligned in columns, making them easier to read.

i don't have "exit(0); # comply with SafePerl" in my cpanel.cgi so should i assume this hack will only work in 5.4x versions & not in 5.38a...?

(pls don't nag me to upgrade, i'm saving up for that!)

Don't know, it might work. Put the codes that need to be above that line at the end of the file.

Error including the required files: Be sure you uploaded UltBB.setup, Styles.file, mods.file and forums.cgi in ASCII/Text mode to your CGI directory. [This is a manual setting on your FTP software] Make sure spelling and case are correct: UltBB.setup not ultbb.setup. syntax error at tzvariables.file line 2, near "$TimeZone1Name "

With some help from Slurpee I have added another input field in the cpanel to enter a Time Zone Rule. This is then diplayed under the time zone name in Ultimate.cgi. I haven't added this code to the worldtime.cgi display.

I like this because I didn't want to change all the time zones serveral times. Although I must change all server offsets for my web site twice a year.

see it here: http://www.dyno-tech.com/gcubb/Ultimate.cgi

Nevex are your UltBB.setup, Styles.file, mods.file, forums.cgi in the same dir as Worldtime.cgi ?

Also cut and paste your tzvariable.file here so we can take a look at it.
