WHAT THIS HACK DOES...
- allows users to upload all file types to a personal directory on your server
- a single attachment is automatically created that links to all files just uploaded
- the attachment is appended to your message in a similar manner to signatures
- checks username, password, write permission before allowing to upload
- automatically uses your style settings
- automatically creates an upload and log directory for each user (that attempts to upload if permitted)
- allow users to view / delete their files
- allows admin to control:
- Attachments On/Off
- Group Restrictions
- file type allowed if "all" not allowed
- max files per upload,
- max files in directory
- allow users to view / delete their files

It sounds really good and if it is we will add it to the board, do you have a ubb that has this hack in action?

GREAT HACK!!!

Would it be possible to place the attachments under a persons username in the left-hand column?

Also, I'm a little cofunsed as to why there is an input field after attachments since this field is automatically filled in when a file is uploaded. Am I missing something?

Thanks for your comments! I have considered moving the location of the attachments to under the name. Possibly in the next version [Linked Image]

Also... as for the attachment field... let's just say this thing has evolved (an understatement). First of all, if all goes wrong they user can just clear the field. Second, I was having difficult getting javascript to pass the parent/child filed value to a hidden field. Probably another reason in there somewhere... But I must admit, it is a little confusing for someone who has not used it before [Linked Image]

Looking into solutions...

He means that he wants to make this hack look like this when you post something.

Did you notice how the icon changes with each file type?

Kyton, I think it would be pretty simple if you did that and if you did I would beg the council to let me install this hack on the board.

That does look nice. I think I can muster something like that up [Linked Image]

Also...

Some of you are having trouble with your hack. Claiming that the attachment text was not popping into the form below... I just spent an hour trying to figure that out because it happened to me!

I noticed that..

I just assumed that my non-cgi path was http://www.olympusmons.com/blah blah blah and filled in my attach_library.pl that way. I set up the ubb and everything seemed fine. Well...

I looked a little closer and noticed that the url did not include "www". I made the adjustment to my ubb setup and things work fine now. Doh! Human error (finally... not a bug [Linked Image]

I cant get the attachmet text to insert it self on to my messeages. Some times it does, and sometimes not.
Is this a bug??
I have reinstalled the script two times..

Forget putting the attachment under the username, I like the way Mutt has it done - to the right of the post in a table. Very nice!! I also like the idea of having an icon associated with the attachment.

Keep up the good work.

Hi,

I have the attachment hack v1.6 nearly working but I am having the following problem.

All files upload correctly and the HTML code is being generated for the link to the uploaded document. Problem is when I view the posts the link / icon for the upload is not being inserted into the message.

Any ideas where this is being generated??
Everything else seems to be working just not the final icon display.

Thanks

Been awhile since someone has replied to this thread. I am sorry to tell you that I no longer support the attachment hack. I can tell you that it works just fine on UBB version 5.47. I really doubt it works on 6.xx.

Good luck!

I slightly modified 1.60 of the hack. I did away with the attachment part of it and created a new UBB code for users to include the image in ANY post.

In its current form, if one does not remember the name of the .txt file that adds the attachment, they can not include it in any other post in any other forum....IF I AM seeing it right!!! smile

What I did was just created the [upload] UBB code, and all they need to remember is the name of the image (just images in my case)...and if they forget they can do a view of their folder and not only SEE what files are up there...but there is a sample code for each image right there to copy-n-paste.

GREAT bit of code to begin with...HELPED me immensely! Thanks! smile
