It'll help you boost traffic, build user loyalty, and collect demographics.
What do you need?
If you don't own a domain you can get
[email protected]If you own your domain, and are able to make DNS and MX record changes on your account you can get
[email protected].
If you don't know if you can do this, ask your Webhost if they are able to do this for you.
First you have to sign up to an external service that will handle the web-based email client. I suggest
'Everyone network's Plug-in-Email' , it's very easy to set up, you can put your own banners up in the hotmail.com-style layout (which you can customize). Each user gets 6MB of space!

Everyone network's Free Email service When you are an
everyone network member, login and choose the 'plug-in-email' service, and set everything up according to their instructions. For now, just to the quick set up, get back to designing the system later. If you own the domain, do the "Change email address" setup before you procede.

open Ultimate.cgi
FIND:
print<
At the bottom of that section (about half way down the screen) there is a line that reads:
$BorderTop
Right ABOVE this line, insert this chunk of code...
################ Free Email Hack #################
################ Free Email Hack #################
Inside that chunk of code, find two URLs which are:
http://yoursite.mail.everyone.net/email/scripts/loginuser.pl
http://yoursite.mail.everyone.net/email/scripts/useragreement.pl
Adjust these URLs to match your accounts URLs, which you will find in the Everyone.net control panel under "Add It!", the URLS will be part of some HTML code given by everyone.net you will not be using this html code, but do be sure to have the same urls in the code above as in the code given by everyone.net.
You should also change that "yoursite.com" bit to say your domain.com, or yourforum.every1.net
mailbox.gif :
Put it in your ubb (noncgi) directory.
That's it! If you have any problems please post on this forum.
