Name: UBBPoll v2.1b

Author: Andy Tomaka

Compatibility: This hack should work with all licensed versions of the UBB. NT Compatibility fixed by MasterMind.

Nope, for the most part, it is the same as 1.3d feature-wise. However, the code is much cleaner, and the script should run faster than previously.

I agree MM, but there is a need for some formatting changes if you have the "remove moderators for Ultimate.cgi" hack installed. Not a real big deal, and nothing against the Poll hack! Just 2 cents worth of what I've found. [Linked Image]

Yeah, I'm doing that...I was just pointing out that there is a little work to do if you have the other hack installed. I think it is GREAT! I saw it on a site and immediately started the search! I have little time to get the formatting straightened out, but I hope to get it all set up this week.

You all do great work, so don't take this as a complaint...it wasn't! just info, nothing more, nothing less. [Linked Image]

Us ubb hackers take constructive critism and nothing less. That was better than that.

Thanks,
and expect an NT compatible version soon.

2.0b released. Added a few lines that make the script NT compatible thanx to MasterMind.

To upgrade, simply fix the path on your admin.cgi and poll.cgi files if necessary, and re-upload them, nothing else to do!

The script doesn't acount for the user removing or adding extra columns, but only the two amount of columns that the stock UBB can have.

On NT whenever i try to create a poll it says "The user has no permissions" or something like that. I used the same user when i was setting it up.

Any ideas??

Did you download the new version? I had to fix the UBBPoll.zip because it was corrupted so you could have. Try downloading again.

Is there any way to modify it so that it doesn't require a register user to vote?

Yes, in sub do_vote, remove these lines:

Quote
quote:
Why would you wanna do that though? There are plenty of good polls out there.

Also realize that this gets rid of the double vote checking.

The hack worked perfectly for me, and the poll is working great. One problem though- both the background and text are set to default at white, so as a result you can't read the text! It's at http://www.roxydoll12.com/cgi-bin/poll.cgi
If you view the source you can see both are color #000000! Can you please tell me how to fix this?

Ellen -- Sorry about the color error. Seems I musta used an incorrect variable in the colors. I will change it to the one I need to use when I get a little bit of time.

And what is the problem?

Quote

Not too dificult. Just find the end of the do_vote subroutine, and print the redirection code.

Quote

Not with the stock version, but it would take too much in the way of modification.

Hi atom,

Tried to install the mod but ran into a problem.

After clicking the submit button in setting up the very first poll, I got the following:

"The members.cgi file could not be opened because No such file or directory."

I tried to add a user ... myself, but got the same error message.

I'm hoping I just missed a step.

Appreciate any help you can provide.

Thanks,
Errol

Hi,

Where do I get the members.cgi file? I don't have that file in any of the directories on my board.

I have my board on an NT which my host has setup to inherit whatever permissions are set for cgi-bin. So, when I created the ubbpoll within cgi-bin, I didn't do any permission steps. BTW, I only have ftp access to the server.

Also step 5 says

5) Create a data directory within that UBBPoll directory and set its chmod to 777.

I don't really know what this step is for. I simply create a directory called "data" within ubbpoll. Is that what step 5 meant?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Errol

Version 2.1b has been released.

There are some coding fixes, some logical fixes, and a few other things. Consult upgrade.txt for upgrading.

Hi Atom,

Installed V2.1b. Same results. =(

I noticed in the Admin.cgi that there is a form that you fill out to set up UBBPoll.

Code
code:

I don't get this at all on my screen when I open admin.cgi from my browser. I instead get the options for New Poll, Delete Poll, Close Poll, etc.

I think that is what I need correct to properly configure UBBPoll.

When I type in admin.cgi?=DoSetup, I just get the bottom nav text links.

Any ideas why the form is not coming up?

Thanks,
Errol

errol -- why would you be access DoSetup, you should never do that. I recomend you delete everything UBBPoll related and start over. thset up stuff should only be shown the first time and not every time.

Hi Atom,

Actually never seen the form, so I've never done it.

I'm puzzled why the form doesn't come up.

I went ahead and did a fresh install per your instructions.

Same results. =(
Form to do setup for the first time doesn't come up. I get the New Poll, Close Poll, etc.

If I can figure out how to get that form to come up, I should be good to go.

Thanks,
Errol

Not sure if you are doing anything wrong [Linked Image] I am not familiar with working on NT servers. Phillip over at Script Keeper said the problem comes because NT can't find the location of the UltPoll.setup file. To fix it, simply find $size = -s 'UltPoll.setup'; and replace it with $size = -s '/path/to/UltPoll.setup';

Hopefully, this will get ya through it [Linked Image]

Thread at scriptkeeper: http://www.scriptkeeper.com/ubb/Forum14/HTML/006583.html

Hi Andy,

The setup form still doesn't come up even with line replacement above.

I also tried Phillip's code replacement suggestion at scriptkeeper but still.. no form setup.

Oh well. I guess I'll shelf this for now until someone who has been able to make this work on an NT server comes up with the solution.

Thanks again Atom for all your help.

Errol
