Is there any Calendar feature in the works for UBB? I've never seen one but it's certainly something very "community-e".

Yes, I hope it is... I plan to work towards one if I can't twist any arms and say "pretty please"... A GNU or GPL licensed calendar will be the first part to find, then integrate parts of the membership... What features are you looking for? Here's a couple: - upon registration, have them put their birthday in and have it appear in the calendar - an announcements forum can have a field to add a short title/description + date so that an event can be automatically added to the calendar, with a link back to the thread. Good ideas. I don't have anything better than that at the moment. Maybe have the system check the calendar and if it's someone's birthday, announce it?

This would be an amazing feature. I've seen it in action for "another software" before, and it would really be a helpful add-on that gave a feeling of community.

Actually, this is my todo list.
Really, it is my todo list. I'm working on a solution to put my todo list online that could work as a calendar easily.
An RDMBS will be required.
UBB.classic: Love it or hate it, it was mine.

A couple more ideas for a calendar hack would be to automatically add "anniversary" links for the 1-year, 2-year, etc. celebrations of dates that members registered on (maybe with a criteria of people having posted a minimum number of times to weed out the riff-raff), and to allow the board moderator to actually integrate text entries with each date (for example on my board I have a 'this date in multiples history' html page with 100 or so entries. Having some of those items show up on the calendar would also be cool).
Thanks for hearing out my ideas...

I like your ideas tailspin.
So all those "I reached 1000 posts" or "ive been here for a year" topics will be eliminated.
All forum announcements could be integrated with the calender.
Mods/admins could set dates of things they need todo.

Okay. How about this - an idea from one of my users at 80sxchange.com:
e-mail reminders if you want to be reminded when a certain event is approaching
I like it! What do YOU think?

I considered starting this a couple of weeks back. I even contacted Matt Kruse to see if I could base this hack on his free perl calendar script (with proper credit of course).
He replied and told me the only way I could use his script was in the format it is in. Meaning I could not use his code in a distributed package, but could provide users with instructions on how to modify his code to work with UBB.
The modifications to get his code to work would be *VERY* cumbersome so I elected to persue other avenues.
Does anyone know of an existing calendar (preferably under GNU/GPL) that would be a good starting point for this hack?

there are lots of gnu/gpl calendars out there, tho a good bit of them require some sort of sql database... I had found a couple that looke promising... I'll post back here when I refind them again...

I used this one on one of my sites and I think it worked very well.. No SQL database need either, and is completely brower configurable. http://www.mattkruse.com/scripts/calendar/

I'm interested in this as well. I had a couple things in mind, either for a calendar app, or a classified app, you'd want it hooked into the UBB, so people only need to register once, for the board, then they can post ads or events. I see above in this board there's a "calendar" option, which looks nice. How was that implemented? Also, I'm hunting for code, I'd call it a module or something, so that I could grab a registered members username/password, then use it in some other app. Or have a "plug in" for the UBB itself, a calendar and and classified, and whatever else people can think of. Also, I'm at 5.47, so I'm taking my time at going to V6. I realize most of the hacks or code features are geared towards V6 now. I tried to search various topics in here and found discussion of "calendar" in this topic, so here I am. I think this is my 1st post here, so my UBB is http://www.nastyz28.com/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi?action=intro&BypassCookie=true if anyone wants to check it out. Regards, MadMike

Thanks for the welcome. I think I'm going to have to stay at 5.47. So I'm not sure if the calendar for V6 is an option for me or not. I can't justify upgrading just for that. I tried to upgrade to 6 a couple hours ago and apparently if you have additional fields in the user profiles, it can cause problems. Fortunantly I busted my test board, not the real place.

MadMike, Glad you thought of busting your test board instead Anyways, there's a script by CopyCat in the Chat area here of the UBBDev forums which will strip away those extra fields. Do a search for it and good luck! qasic
