OK people! I did it. I got UBB 6.
and its looking good.
Now, what I need is multiple ranks! I had it in my board before and I need it in 6.
So ie, 25 posts u r an ensign, 30 posts, ur a lt.
but also, i need to ability to change rank if need be, so if ur federation, u can be klingon if u want!

Unfortunately, I'm in the same boat as Cyberdude8472. The link you provided isn't the hack we need. For starters, it only alows 5 extra ranks. Before UBB 6 I had several. You can see the list here:

So, I'd like to bring this question up again... Is there a new Stars/Custom ranks hack out that will allow several ranks and images?

Are you sure you checked the Beta forum FIRST? There's at least TWO HACKS that will do what you are looking for.
