what did the first hack do?

This is what the hacks do.

A category is created in forum setting. The ultimatebb.cgi is edited so that it will not show that category. A second ultimatebb.cgi is created & customised so that it will only display that category.

"They way i have written this hack is VERY SIMPLE. It works simply by creating a new Category for Private Boards. After you do this, there is a few small edits to Ultimate.cgi to filter out any board in the "Private Boards" category from showing up when displaying the main page. The second page is a duplicate of Ultimate.cgi, edited so that ONLY forums in the "Private Boards" category are displayed, then the duplicate is renamed "PrivateBoards.cgi".

Sorry about it just now .... fixed the problem as soon as i did it.

Just that my computer is running slowwww

that is far to intense for me, I know you would have to edit parts of ubb_forum_summary.cgi and public_forum_summary.pl and maybe ultimatebb.cgi cause there are parts of that in the first two.

i suck at cgi so i can make it myself but all i want is someone to make the hack why cant the person that made it for ubb5 make it for ubb6

Hate to bump but... This is just such a great hack. Can anyone look at this and maybe give us some clues on what to do? I had just got to grips with UBB5 and what each file did!!

On that hack, could you choose what forums you wanted displayed on the second ultimate.cgi, or did they have to be private (ie, password protected, or only certain member's allowed). I could use this if anyone could use the forums in the second Ultimate.cgi.....someone ought to make this

Basically, you had two ultimage.cgi files each displaying only the category numbers you wanted them to. That way, you could have one set of forums on one page, and another on the second page. For any sites with a lot of forums, it is a nice way of separating the categories and introducing sub-categories.

So in answer to your question, yes, you had complete control over which categories or forums were displayed on each page. These are normal, public forums viewable by all members.

I need a hack like this one too, and i have an idea how to make(it doesnt workd with PASSSWORD protected frum,but with them who are restricted to special members...)

When a user logs in, you could check if he is allowed to view the private forum...If he is, show it...if not,dont show it...

Hope u understood that(my english is really bad) and someone could a code a "hide private forums"hack...That would be veryververy cool!


PS:i dont like the idea with the second ultimatebb.cgi,because its not as comortable like my idea above...

[GLX]SNES, I think the whole idea of this hack is to have forums you don't want seen with the others on another page.

For some reason, I don't think anyone will make this...

Sorry to drag up old threads, but this is one hack that is really holding my site back at the moment. We used it with UBB5, and it allowed us to have a specialist section, and then a general section.

Now that we have UBB6, we only have the specialist site up and running, meaning we have lost a lot of members who liked to chat about more off topic things...

Anyone out there can help, I'd really appreciate it

Could someone pleeeeeaaase consider making this? Either the ability to turn a category off and still access it via ultimatebb.cgi?category=X or the ability to show the category on 'Page 1' or Page 2' (whether it be another ultimatebb.cgi or ultimatebb?page=X, or something), it doens't seem like it'd be that hard to do....maybe when 6.1 is out someone'll consider it....

Here`s an idea.........

Turn all the forums that you want private "off", but first, get their URLs. Create a page on your website (not to be shown to the public) that lists links to those private forums. That way, people won`t see the private forums, but you can still enter them, AND post in them.

Um.....that's a little cheesy, considering it wouldn't count posts or show the last post or anything like that....I'd prefer what I suggested...

I just wonder whats the actual reason for NONE of the good coders out there are responding to this.

I have a similar suggestion HERE , and none of the coders have responded to that thread either.

Could it be a hack IP has forbidden them to create? :rolleyes:

I can understand why Infopop may not like it, but I don't think they'd say no to it. And the coders may not need it, so they may not make it. I'm sure someone'll make it though
