I had an interesting idea for a UBB hack which I think would be enjoyed by many people, sicne it will allow them to easily grow the size of their forums.

What I have in mind is that UBB would have a special button which would say something like "Reffer a friend" . When a registred member clicks on that button, he will be presented with a form where he would be able to enter his friends' email addresses and send them an email inviting them to join the UBB. Each email would automaticly be customized with the member's referall link, and if the recepient clicks on that link and joins the board, the member will be awarded a Point.
Then, the administrator can view the number of points accumulated by each member and use it as a basis for awarding prizes, etc.

What do you think of this idea? Is anyone up to the challenge of making something like that?

Isn't this basically what UBBFriend does?

I mean, the point thing might have some value, but it would require changing around of the UBB member files no? Hm.. you could make a dir called /memberpoints and stick member nums with their points in there maybe.

Anyway, i could do something like this in PHP, but i'm guessing you wouldn't want that heh. Hopefully someone else with Perl skills will come along.

The reason I am interested in the points idea is that it will give members a bigger incentive to recommend the board, since they would have chances to win contests.

Regarding PHP, I don't see why not. It might actually work faster then Perl does.

Like a referal system? Yea thats a good idea and no member numbers wouldnt need to be touched.

Its easy enough but i am so busy with a project. (Some websites can be bossy)
