In networking you can send a broadcast message to everyone via a popup window. Would something like this be able to be accomplished to send a communication to system/group or individual?

Hrmm. Are you talking about windows NT....linux...??? 'Networking' in general is a pretty broad term, I suppose you could be talking about IGMP or some such TCP/IP function.

Perhaps refine your question a little bit. Did you want to send a Global PM? A real time window that pops up to everyone who is currently online? (<--This would be cool, but sounds tricky) Perhaps just a topic which could be auto-posted to every one of your forums?

Anyways, you'll have much better luck with info if you narrow down your request.

Hope this helped.

Something on the lines of a Netware messaging system. What I am envisioning is a browser window that can pop up with a text message being directed toward a member or group. I would think you can direct it via CGI to an IP list of logged in users the next time a screen is updated. Making more sense?

I can think of a way that you could easily pop up a message to everyone on say the next load of the main page or of a forum display... it would even be possible for you to designate groups of people or individuals to pop this up at...

I wouldnt bother doing all threads as that is wasted server time in my opinion...

This would not just automatically pop up regardless of what the user is doing, it would have to be a new page load.

Having it pop up the instant you send the message is beyond the scope of my abilities.
