What I'd like...is for members to be able to choose their own template from a list of a few pre-made templates, to be what the forums look like to them.

I know this feature is available with other BBS... anyone know of a hack for UBB? or can make a hack?

UBB 6 uses a caching system and would be a semi-complex work-around for something like this.

You would either have to turn the cache off, or make different copies of each file, using different templates in the cache, then call the proper templated file when retrieving from the cache.

It's entirely possible, but to me simply isn't worth it to rework the entire cache system just for people to have different colors and grafix. To do it while the cache is turned off would be easy, but I personally feel that cost to benefit ratio isnt there.

Well, since it IS possible, would anyone be willing to do it? It may not seem like a super important thing to have, but as many of the lower end forums have them... I think UBB should too. Especially when you're trying to compete for members...
