Turbanator over at www.quake3world.com has a hack that uses [lvlshot][/lvlshot] that allows members to post pics of any size and they show up in the post as a thumbnail around 300x200 that opens a new window with the full size pic when you click on it. How (where) do you add or manipulate UBB code? Has anyone done something similar to a 6.x UBB? Q3W uses 5.47 I believe.

They've obviously made major changes to the board, including the ability for it to process images... This is more than just a major undertaking. The vast majority of the hosts don't have the image processing modules for Perl...

I host my UBB on a Win2K Advanced Server box, and getting the tools to thumbnail images shouldn't be a problem at all. I guess I'm looking for guidance on how to tell the UBB to access the thumbnailer, and then put the new code into the page.
I am not a programmer, and don't pretend to know the depth of coding that it would take to make this happen. My members like to post large images at times and the lvlshot commands at quake3world make for some very neat and organized looking threads.

No, no, no, no!! That just takes the HUGE image and inlines it at the predetermined size!
THAT IS NOT the right way to do it!
You need to use GD or ImageMagick combined with LWP to create a REAL thumbnail.
If you're going to use the code above, your users are FAR better off just posting links.

That is exactly what I was looking for, but I see the point that it still requires the members machine to d/l the entire image to display it.
My objective was to keep the appearance of the threads uniform.

In this code, is it very difficult to integrate some call to NetPBM or ImageMagic to do make the thumb? Actually XPerT, I think you have a great idea here We need someone to make this..Turbanator...you have a lot of spare time..huh? [ July 26, 2001 01:52 PM: Message edited by: kaukagaul ]
