If I change the public name in the cookies file, e.g. to john (IE 6, WinXP), then the forum html starts thinking I'm john (although the cgi, doesn't, cause it uses the member file, to read the public name). So when I post a message with john cookie, I get the following - moderator gets a message saying that john posted a message, while the forum says it was me who posted it.

Don't change it in the cookies file, do it properly through the UBB profile.

And as a user if I always do what forum administration expects me to do there will be no bugs at all.

Wha?

Just don't change it from the cookie, change it via the UBB profile and you shouldn't get any errors.

Do I need to say vulnerability instead of bug, to clarify it?

It's not a bug and not a vulnerability. The UBB files are cached, so they have to get your public name in "Hello" line from your cookie. However, everything OTHER users see is from the profile itself, and it ignores what's set in your cookie. Which means, that this cookie field is only seen by you, so there is no reason to change it -> no reason to protect.

LK, please read more carefully.
As I said, the moderator receives an e-mail that "john" posted a message, though in the forum it's me who did it.
