ladies and gentlemen of the ubbdev...
i beseach you. ... buhseech. ..mm.. ask you:
infopop obviously wants all us younguns to buy the boards. you guys are obviously in some sorta cohoots with'em, so you want us to get'em, too.
people go to their forums and site to learn about new upgrades, and when to get them. you guys advertise'em here, as well.
however, i think there should be a difference. you guys shouldnt be "selling" the idea of upgrading to a new version of the UBB until its complete by ubbdev standards (meaning accessible to some of the major hacks -- avatars, who's online, etc).
im not suggesting, even in the slightest, that you guys force anyone to do anything, etc...
but, for one reason or another, whenever a new version of the boards come out (most notably, v6, then v6.1), there's an enormous amount of hype here, to upgrade immediately because the actual message boards are complete -- only to find out moments afterwards, that there are no, or few, available hacks.
...soo... to "bottom line" it, maybe you guys should make some sorta formal announcement as to when the "ubbdeved" boards are ready.
illustration scenario A:
rob ... er... 'drkknght' has a fully hacked, smooth looking and working ubb, version 5.45. infopop and ubbdev announce the new 6.0 is finally available! 'drkknght' goes to upgrade, and, hours later, realizes he lost all the cool uniqueness of his board, the extra features. he goes to ubbdev.com to get some of those cool hacks back, like who's online and board stats, but... notices that none of those hacks are available (and probably wont be for some time). 'drkknght' becomes saddened, and partially enraged, sulking in a corner. days go by. he's fired from his job. his mother begins to worry. bills are piling in (and so on).
illustration scenario B:
'drkknght' has a fully hacked, smooth looking and working ubb, version 5.45. infopop announces the new 6.0 is finally available! ubbdev notes its available, but doesnt heavily advertise, or persuade, or perhaps doesnt even upgrade their own boards.
10-15 days later, after completing various tests on the new version, with their highest ranking hack-soldiers, ubb warriors, and script secret service, ubbdev announces that an "ubbdev approved" version 6 is out at infopop's site, and several well known, and beloved hacks are now available.
'drkknght' decides then to upgrade, rejoicing in modern technology. he stumbles upon an old lottery ticket, and realizes he's a winner. quits job, and works, diligantly, on maintaining his beautifully upgraded ubbs, for the rest of his ... week. (c'mon, i won the lottery).
eh?
