Greetings. Somewhere I read the limit for UBB as far as number of members go, is 20000, if this is the case, can it be modified to hold more?

you're wrong.... The only UBB that have member limits is the trial one, the others are with no limit. Check www.ewnet.com/forums They have 50000 users registered there.

Correct. There is NO member limit in the full version of UBB.

Oh ok...well actually I'm not the one who claimed the 20000 limit, infopo's description of UBB claims that, I just revisited their web site to make sure Thanks Happy Holidays Rabriar [ 12-28-2001 10:31 AM: Message edited by: rabriar ]

In general, if you have an active community with 20k members or more, the ubb is beginning to reach its limits without some really nice hardware backing it up. They encourage you to move up to threads or open topic around that point.
With nice dedicated hardware tho, you can pretty much go as high as you want as long as you keep throwing more memory and hard drive speed at it - true of most of the better forums.
The key is not so much how many you have registered, but the number online and posting at one time. I've seen UBB's with >600 online at once and doing fine. Of course, it was on a dedicated machine with dual processors and 1gb of ram.

>600 concurrent users is some pretty serious drive usage. That's when a Raid array and 15K SCSI drives really shine. It would nice to be able to preload the UBB into memory so that the flat files were at MHz speeds.

The 20,000 limit is when UBB performance tends to get unacceptable, which is then when we push UBBThreads or OpenTopic. There is no technical limit.

I was just messing around with member files and you can have up to 99999999 members! after that it creates the 100000000 file on registration but it f***s something up and throws up an error on going to the ubb, note you can also create manually a member file 00000000.cgi and have member #0! but the cp won't mail it or the ubb won't find it by member number, posts fine though
