Is there any way a hack can be created (or code changed) so that if a post is deleted, a blank post appears saying something like, "Post deleted at the request of ..."

Or maybe, "Post deleted for content"--kinda like what happens when someone edits a post, and you can enable the feature that says, "Edited by ..."

I ask because I had a situation at my board where someone reacted negatively to a post; she then went in and deleted her message, and because I don't let members delete posts, left it blank. Her buddy--a moderator--then went in and deleted the post.

Unfortunately, this became a big issue because someone reacted to what she had seen in the since deleted post--and was pretty much left hanging in the wind.

I didn't find out about it until well after the fact. I then told my moderators that if they need to delete a post, they shouldn't do it per se--but leave a message something like, "Post removed at the request of ..."

Does this make sense?

I didn't forsee something like this happening, and the moderator doesn't see the problem that I have with it (she's no longer moderating ), but I'd like to prevent this from happening in the future.

Thanks!

I wanted to bump this up to see if anyone has any ideas about whether or not this is a doable hack.

Thanks.

Hmmm..

If the routine that deletes a post is replaced with a clone of the edit routine that simply replaces the content... that should do the trick...

This is similar to a issue that has come up often (and agin recently) on our boards, which I hope UBBDev might help with. That is a hack to remove the topic starter's ability to delete their initial post (thus deleting the entire thread) after someone has replied to it.

Despite all attempts to dissuade such, we invariably have people who, when they are unhappy with the way their topic is going, simply delete the thread. It is commonly felt among our staff and members that this is a real injustice, as no members should arbitrarily have the ability to edit/remove anything but their own words (with the exception of Admins and Mods, but that's different wink
