Merge threadsI have no idea how complicated it would be to code something like this, but every now and then, a couple really similar threads get going. It would be great to be able to "merge" them into one, instead of taking one and closing it--referring it to the other.
Moved by Moderator/AdminAn idea similar to the one above--sometimes an individual post needs to be moved to an already started thread.
For example, at my site, I have a thread called, "Introduce Yourselves." Every now and then, a newbie will post his/her introduction in a separate thread or a thread that doesn't make much sense.
So, as Mods/Admins, we go in and cut and paste it into the correct thread. Problem is that the post then says it's from "us" and not the original poster.
Perhaps there could be a check box for Mods/Admins to say something like--"Originally posted by ..."
Anchor URL in E-mailWhen you subscribe to a thread when you start a topic, I think it'd be cool if the URL in that e-mail would take you directly to the new post.
SpoilerOnce upon a time, I saw something like this--a mod in progress or something.
The main emphasis of my community is that we are readers. And as readers, we love to talk books.
We do have our share of "end readers" (those who love to know what happens BEFORE they read a book), but for the most part, we have those who wish to be surprised.
I would imagine that there are other communities that also discuss books, TV shows, movies, et al, that could benefit from such a hack, too.
I'd love to see a button that would act like
Instant UBB Code and insert a predetermined "Spoiler Alert" into the message.
This way, posters don't have to go back to the forum intro and grab the code I've already typed up for them ... or put in something like this
*****spoiler****spoiler****
Over & over -- w/out spaces -- skewing the width of a thread or the width of the "Today's Active Topics" screen.
I've even seen that happen where they'd do this
spoiler
spoiler
spoiler
But the line breaks aren't recognized & it strings it all together into one long sentence in the Today's Active Topics screen.
So the hack would have to have the spaces & necessary space so that the initial part of the message isn't seen in Today's Active Topics, either.
