Another idea from the brain of Laura! (got this one in the shower) How bout, a hack that allows members to select what Time Zone they are in, or how many hours they + or - they need to get the time to their time? So that when they are surfing the forums, all the times are in their times (ie GMT or PST) Ill go back to the shower now!

I would love to see this one too. In fact I think I've mentioned it 10 or 15 times...
grrrls seem to get answered more quickly though.

I think the idea of Laura popping in and out of the shower is slightly more ... er ... inspirational than say, Allen or somebody else.

rofl, yeah...
Anyway, I'd love to see this on UBB (cause it's a standard feature on vB, and I wanna see more vB features on UBB... Not that I like vBs or anything, I just like most of its features... )
Anyway, Xpert's right, it's been mentioned quite a few times but nothing's ever been done about it. I hope someone considers it this time around.

LK's thinking clock just shows what time it on the main forum summary. What I mean is, it alters the time to your setting when you post.
IE, the all the times from 'Last Reply By' and 'Posted at' are user specified, GMT or PST etc..
If anyone can make it any clearer as being blond its difficult for me

that would absolutely kill the cache and the ubb accelerator... either that or you would have 24 examples of each file to cover all time zones...

they build pages dynamically... so does threads, open topic, ubb.x and most any other db-driven forum.

Hmmmm, could be done at the client end entirely via JS. I did have a quick look at it. All that would need to happen is JS needs a proper time formatted string e.g. Monday 8th July 2002 21:47 GMT and then there is a Local time function in JS that takes it from that date string to the local one Would be heavy on JS and noscript tags just so it gets displayed whatever the browser. I suppose each time could be stored a the jdate and then a port of the ubb_lib_time function to JS to convert those dates to a proper string. and use the vars_time{TimeZone} for the JS to work out. I would code it but I've got plenty of other things to do at the moment, especially if we're upgrading to 6.3

OpenTopic and UBB.x use caching as well, Allen. They do it using Javascript. We intend to steal this as soon as they get the bugs out of the works.
UBB.classic: Love it or hate it, it was mine.

So are you saying this is going to be a feature of UBB.classic in the future?

I would like this hack too, saves having to use a set time and half the people on your forum aren't in that time zone.

Vander, profile doesn't use cache, so it could just be written in the Perl code.

Let me get this straight, you run an Ikonboard website and you're at a UBB Developers site claiming that we're stealing something of yours?

I think you got the wrong end of the stick!
I took it as Charles stealing the code from OpenTopic/UBB.x not stealing it from ikonboard.

I was just making a joke about the stealing. That is why I included the smily. No offense was to be taken. And none was implied at all.
Running a ikonboard doesn't mean I do not like other message boards. There are a very lot of new, well written BB's out there. Besides that... I think almost all boards are based off of this very board right here. Maybe not this exact version, but off of this board overall. And isnt this getting a little off topic from the time suggestion. I do have aim to talk on.

I added it to UBBDev (but not because you asked for it, because it was in OpenTopic )

Well, that's up to him. But since I'm guessing the code is still in slight-beta (it's not exactly old code) i'm guessing it won't be released right away. But LK would have to answer that.
(Then why am I answering it?)

It doesn't work on all systems, and it doesn't work with Wordlets or default configuration that isn't GMT-0600... and even though it can be fixed pretty easily, it's not. Hint: it uses OpenTopic code, saves in cookies, and you can see most of it using View Source on topic page, forum page, forum summary, my profile and pm topic.
