BTW Not sure which forum this sits best in.

Have Infopop ever considered allowing people such as the "hackers" on here to sell UBB pre-configured with a bunch of hacks?

I'm sure there are plenty of us that have got hacked UBB's out there and it would just be good if somebody like UBBDev et al were able to sell UBB with a number of integrated hacks.

To be perfectly honest, it would be great if the majority of all the hacks were added into the next version as I feel that UBB has lost ground to the "other" popular board that ripped all the UBB ideas in the first place.

I'd have gladly paid, say 25% more, for a copy of 6.3.0 with the 20+ hacks I've had to install and also had the support of this site to call upon for any problems or ongoing support.

More of a business idea/suggestion for Infopop I guess but just a suggestion.

It would be a violation of the license agreement to sell a copy with hacks preinstalled. You can however hire someone to install hacks for you.

Stay tuned...

Well taht comes with time.
I didnt like touching mine at first.

Now I actually enjoy doing it especially to see some results smile

Only thing I wish infopop left in was the browser taking you back to your post once you post not the top of the page.

I Cannot Support Ubb Via ICQ or MSN.
Not because I dont want to its just I cant. tipsy

The problem is for people with no Perl skills or with no programming expertise but would like the extra features. I've added over 20 hacks and the inter-relations between some of the hacks or slight errors in the documentation means you need to take everything with a pinch of salt.

And trying to MultiHack is fraught with other problems. I had 7 MHKs to add and it took 3 attempts to find an order that worked.

And now that I've got a board that works, I'm worried to death about the upgrades.

I've already identified two faults with UBB v6.3.0 that are not going to be fixed until v6.3.1. I'd also like the "Report to Moderator" feature promised in 6.3.1 too but the idea of upgrading my hacked 6.3.0 to 6.3.1 keeps me awake at night, lol. And all this because I'm trying to play catch up with a competitor's site that runs the cheaper and standard out-of-the-box ... *whispers* vBulletin.

For those who are afraid of touching the files they can wade into unknown waters and give it a go. Many of the instructions are pretty straight forward, just takes a bit of time and patience.

The important thing is to backup your files as you go along, so you can always undo if you muck it up.

Another option of course is to have someone else who is confortable editing files do it for you.

Modifying files isn't for everyone, but for those that want more, new, better that is what we are here for.

When I first started using UBB, I didn't know anything about Perl/CGI. After putting in hacks here and there, the more I worked with the code, the more I could look at it and know what was going on. I still don't really know Perl/CGI much, and I can't write any Perl/CGI code by hand, but I've been able to manipulate and add onto the UBB code with litle problem.
