First off kudos to so many programmers here you all rock and do so much ard work. Your hacks are a goddess send.

That said on with the post.

This would be a very useful tool IMHO. I don't know about anyone else but I sure get enough complaints about people wanting those empty spaces.Oh yeah as a personal challenge to you coders out there. The UBB support teams had this to say.

Charles Capps "Do not, under any circumstances, adjust member numbers in this manner. This will cause a LOT of functions used internally to break."

Is there some better method (Tool or other) aside from manually editing the member files to pull the member numbers into the unused member numbers?

It rolls like this.

We have a slew of users (some just to make my life miserable i'm sure) Who never post. We routinely erase people who don't post over a certain amount. to keep the database accurate.

However this has created tons of holes. And member numbers in the 3000

I'm sure this doesn't matter to many.

But we'd really like to fill those holes up.

Example:

1 is not in use
2 Is in use
3 is in use
4 is in use
5 is not in use
6 is in use

etc etc

I'd like to shift everyone.

2 becomes 1
3 becomes 2
4 becomes 3
6 becomes 4

Etc etc.

Is there any way to do this short of manual edit?

Does anyone have a tool or script that can be run?

Welcome smile

I don't think you'll wanna even try a manual edit, as all posts and pm's in your forum will be affected as well eek

A tool for this would be helpful tho smile

Hmm okay I can see how they might have interdependecies that way.

Well I hope this has kicked off a right proper developer challenge then. }:>)

More info for the developer who take son this challenge.

Charles Capps:
The topic datafiles contain the user number that posted each post - reusing member numbers will cause the UBB to then associate each of the old posts with the newly renumbered users.

But not everything uses the stored member number, sometimes the stored user name is used alone.

Mix the two and things get VERY confused VERY quickly. smile

So the tool would have to touch plenty of files. If a developer here takes on this challenge I'll commend him for having time and enough skills to do this without destroying everything. wink

If it wasn't insane, I'd be up for it. It's not hard, just complex.

Psst - we have a signature image rule here... please knock that down to a button-sized image.. 50x150 or thereabouts. Thanks. smile
