I could have sworn I saw a hack that existed that limited the number of times a nested quote could be done.

My users have a tendency to just hit the quote button, quote everything and add two words. When they get 20 deep in nesting, it looks like a mess.

A hack that let me limit the number of times a nested quote would be allowed might be nice. I couldhave sworn I saw this somewhere, but I can't find it now.

Anyone?

If someone ventures down this road, the experimental listize code should be modifiable enough to make it work... (it can determine the nesting depth, then just snip out the parts of the post too deeply nested... this methodology is currently outlined for the next revision of the UBBCode parser...)

I think LK did the original mod and that was effective. Along with the mod, I have found that additional edits were also necessary for the return values when editing a quoted post (when HTML is turned off). The "blockquote" was another key issue that had to be resolved.

To compensate for the HTML return values I had to eliminate all "font" tags from the UBB code...The edits had to match with both routines in ubb_lib_posting.cgi AND ubb_lib.cgi files. Without doing so, when you edit a quoted post you'll get the remains of the HTML tags.

Results (mod + additional edits): With regular quotes (upon quote) will only tag the last user's post. When the Quick Reply Quote was used the last two quotes were listed, but no more. I'm making it confusing but it's not. laugh

Click here for a test I did tonight. I need to go back and check exactly what I edited since this was done months ago. smile

If you're interested here is the original mod (with no other edits) provided by LK. If not my apologies laugh :

See if this works for you. Make sure to test repeated quotes and edits to each quote for thorough testing. Also test the Quick Reply quotes. If you have the HTML turned off and get the HTML traces when editing let me know. smile
