Hey Everyone

I've spent a lot of time looking around...there are a lot of neat ideas here. This is my first post...and of course I'm wanting something. smile

Who knows...maybe it's already out there.

I have a very simple community...at least simple compared to a lot of ones I've seen here. But we have a great time (1200+ members) and for it's size, we have a lot of history.

One thing that I've always done is award points of members when they do something fun...honestly, it's just a stupid thing we do. Someone makes a great joke, they get a 1,000 points.

No one records them, or keeps track, but I thought it would be cool if I could actually award points to a member and have the system keep track in the left navigation. Maybe the points could hyperlink to a section in the FAQ explaining what they were.

Thoughts?

I could work on this tomorrow. What would be needed? I could make it so you could give them points via the cp, or do you want them to earn them based on posting?

Hey Weird Al

Wow...that would be awesome. Ideally, I would be the only one award points based on actions I see. Nothing the user can do to earn points on his/her own (posting, editing, etc.).

I would also like the points to show up to the left right under "Member #" and if possible, link to a page where I can explain the point system. Use http://www.dctalksolo.com/points.shtml if you need a link now.

Here's my only thought before you start: I will be upgrading to 6.6 when it releases. I would hate for you to work on a mod and have it not work on the new version. Is this going to be an issue?

Thanks! Much appreciated!

oooh. might be. I'll be upgrading to 6.6 within days of it's release. Most likely the only thing that will be different that would effect this would be cp_edit_profile.pl and cp_users.cgi . Once I have those and know how to do that, I should be able to port it.

Would you want me to wait until 6.6 then do it? I heard 6.6 should be out within like 5 weeks, so would it be worth it to install it just to uninstall it?
