I would love to be able to give you some solid information but I don't have any. The team working on the portal is going to try to get it going with UBB 6.4 because of changes in the code that make the implementation a lot easier. It makes sense when you consider the fact that we want the portal to be available to users that don't want to hack the UBB code. It should be something you can add to an existing virgin UBB.
