Is there a hack to modify the user ratings so you can rate 8 instead of 5?

i.e. we run an auto forum and use spark plugs instead of the default stars and would like to rate by spark plugs, so if someone rates you, they can rate you 8 stars (8 cylinders) instead of just 5.

The rating code is balanced entirely around the concept of 0-5... making it think in terms of 0-8 would require a major overhaul.
