How hard would it be to make an addon that would log the usernames of users who view a thread and then save it to display on the thread page.

*cough*pntf*cough* Go to ?ubb=pntf;f=X;t=xxxxxx BTW that's a great idea for hit hack 3: use PNTF to find out the number of viewers.

But see that only tracks it for the last 15 minutes. Im wanting to be able to show every user that ever viewed each thread.

I dont really see how its that server intensive if you replicate the model used in the hit hack already. You pass all the info back and forth using its javascript and that little cgi page handels all the data reading and stuff and generates the output. If you store the names in a field list and the user ids in a feild list similar to the method for the hit hack this should only be as server intensive as the hit hack is.

The hit hack increments a number. This requires storing a large amount of names, making sure not to duplicate any of them, and then you have to format then.
Also, you'll most likely want to use &GetPubName on the members so you know they're publie name, and this would need to be done every time anyone viewed a topic.
This idea could bring forums like UBBDEV to a halt
