Was just wondering if anyone here is interested in working on PM Tool Development.
Currently, there is no maintenance functionality in UBB.classic to go out and clean up the PM system.
I talked to Charles Capp via the UBB.classic forums a while back about how to do it maually, and while I DID manage to get a pretty good result with manual cleanup, it was VERY time consuming.
Charles tells me there is some code that they provide without support that is supposed to help re-index a PM system that has become corrupt. I have opened a ticket and requested access to this code for some testing.
What I'd like to see developed is a Tool/Utility that would allow the admin to specify a cutoff date and then the utility would go out and:
1) Delete the PMs
2) Delete the associated notices, users, et al.
3) And finally, go back and check/reindex the PM system to make sure everything is cool.
Additionally, it'd be nice if you could run the tool to simply go out and find/delete orphaned PMs which no longer appear in the indexing system...
Old/useless PMs are eating up a lot of space/file count on my system and it'd be nice to be able to run a pruning tool periodically just like we do for threads...
Perhaps, if we got a good tool running, it could be added as a CP hack... and maybe eventually integrated into the main app files....
I am NOT a programmer, but have a fair grasp of how the system works... I am also willing to test the new code on my system to make sure it works...
Any interest in helping out?
Thanks,
