Once again, we are pleased to announce our UBBDev CONTENT RULEZ Contest!!!

Congratulations again to all of the great entrants from last month. Here is your chance to try again.

Sorry for the short notice, as I was away. We're going to give you just a few days to get your entries in, so you'll have until Sunday, May 26th, 11:59pm UBBDevTime to enter. Rules are below.

This contest focuses on the Content of your site. Basically, we want you to provide us with examples that you think best represent your forums. To enter into the contest, you must provide us with the following:

  • A brief description of what your forums is all about. It's purpose, the type of users you attract, and how long the community has been together.
  • Links to four individual threads that you feel best exemplify your board, at least two of these threads must be at least 1 month old.

Entries must be submitted prior to Sunday, May 26th, 11:59pm UBBDev-time, after which judging will commence.
Each entry will be evaluted by UBBDev's team of Moderators and Administrators, who will vote on which site they feel best serves its audience. Note: that we will not be voting on which threads we like best, but the ones that we feel best represent the purpose of your forums and make a positive contribution to your community.

Now for the fine print:
  • Eligible entries can be any legal full-release UBB™. This includes older version 5.x boards!!! If you have a pirated board...don't bother entering.
  • The only eligible beta boards are version 6.2.x or 6.3.x boards.
  • Forum must have been established at least three months ago
  • Any warez, porno or warez/porn related site, or sites with links, banners, pop-ups to any warez or pornographic sites need not apply. We may exclude any other site that we deem to be inappropriate or contains inappropriate content, or content deemed to be inappropriate...you get the point.
  • Sites that illegally hide/remove/modify the Infopop copyright
  • Links to threads which contain excessive profanity or vulgar language will be removed. If your site is best represented by "inmaturity" then this is probably not the contest for you.

Entries can also be disqualified for any other reason at our discretion, with or without notice to the entrant.
The winner will have their site featured in the June U-Zine. We can't promise any "real" prizes at this point in time, although we'll see what happens down the road.

Rules of this contest may be modified at any time if needed.

Good luck!

-Tacks

How about 800+ boards that are all different and over 52,000 registered users? Hostboard allows the creation of boards by the users on the fly. Each forum is 100% customizable to the moderators prefrence. There is absolutly no way I could link out every forums or single out a post from the thousands and thousands that help define what Hostboard is.

Contests like this are extremely difficult as Hostboard does not fall under any particular type of system nor fit any particular catagory since we seem to cover all of them in one way or another.

Well then that would not really be fair to the other boards/moderators if I picked out one. Each board is created and moderated by the individual creating it. It is up to them how it is run and designed. The Hostboard administration really just answers questions and builds wish lists and work to enhance the overall system. Even simple stuff like banning a user on a per board basis is done through the MCP (moderator's control panel) by the moderator(s) of that board, the primary moderator can add/remove their own moderators, they an also upload custom header/footer images as well as buttons, or decide to filter messages against a profanity list or maybe not allow avatars to be displayed in their forum, just to name a few things available to them.

Hostboard just provides the frame work and is not "a board" but rather it is comprimised as a community of boards. This is why I believe that Hostboard has never really been able to compete in these contests.

That's ok as we are happy to be one of the largest and heavily modified UBB examples on the net smile

The time frame is compressed in order to pick a winner and conduct an interview for the June U-Zine. Plenty of time for someone to pick 4 sample threads that represent their forum.

LOL!

It won't hurt to try entering. smile

AnimeGamerZ is a message board were people of all ages (any age that can read and write...err...type) can come and visit, and have appropriate content. We believe that swearing may be a habit for you, but you don't have to take your habit onto the internet. I also think that, being the small community that we are, all the moderators and administrator talk on the same level as members. Translation: They don't use their power to do things. They just have the capability of deleting threads, etc.
AG (AnimeGamerZ, just an abbreviation) has been online for 11 months now, will be a year old in June. Mainly, we attract members who are interested in gaming, but we'll get a handful of anime freaks who will come and go. Some of our members who prefer gaming do watch some anime, so they can discuss that, too. ATM, we are thinking of changing to just a gaming UBB, though.

Well, I just randomly picked 4 forums with a post from each. Not really what Hostboard is about... Also since moderators can choose their own description I am just going to cut and paste them.

Hostboard provides a Web-based application service that engages business and individuals to build, join and participate in customized and personalized online communitiies.

Whatever pop's into my head next. But be warned, it's usually not ~PC~! Media (movies, tv, music, news, etc.), body-modification & mind-altering, picture posts, goofy websites, or just general-chitchat.

Smash World Forums - http://www.smashboards.com

Okay, the base content of my boards was a game called Super Smash Brothers for the N64. After the game got old, everyone started to post in the General Discussion room. Now a sequel came out for the GCUBE called Super Smash Bros Melee and our forums are ever popular now, but not only for the games. We currently have about 7,500 registered members. The boards are about 1.5 years old. The site is almost 3 years old.

I also have a very big site to back up the forums and attract new members daily. The site is located at: http://www.smashworld.org

The main section of this site that attracted a lot of the forum users was "Smash Melee World" located at http://www.smashbrosmelee.com

If age has anything to do with the contest, I'm only 16.

The targeted audience of my site are 11-25 year olds. A majority of our visitors are 12-17, but we have quite a few colleagues too.

Here are four decent threads of our forums:

1). Neverending Story 2 - Started over a year ago, this topic started in our Forum Games room. It now has over 3,000 posts. The original "Neverending Story" topic was deleted in a server crash, but the sequel seems to be doing well wink

2). "Guns don\'t kill people, people kill people." - One of the most important aspects of Smash Boards now is debating. We even dedicated a whole new room for debates only. Religious debates are hot right now, and a topic like this really shows our range of debators.

3). Secret Information - Like I said earlier, our boards were at first devoted to Super Smash Bros. Well, when the sequel was announced you can imagine how many people went crazy. We opend a new room for the sequel and it was bursting with replies. This topic displays how crazy people really were about anticipating the game before it came out. This topic is a mere rumor which got 17 pages of replies!

4). The Dolphin Topic - This is a very funny topic. It shows the humorous side of our moderators and the interaction between moderators and regular posters. In this topic one of our mods took a dolphin picture and edited it for each moderator/admin. Although its kind of an inside joke on our boards it really shows some humor.

Good Luck everyone.
