Simple question, with your forums and mods do you add more as more members come or do you just add the lot in one go?

Ofcourse that I wouldn't have 20 mods/forums for 100 users, but I also wouldn't have 10 mods/forums for 10000 users. So yes, IMO mods/forums should be added as more members join.

We've been running www.aq2zone.com for roughly 4 years by now, and we haven't added or removed many moderators since we started.
Hmm... well, only two moderators, and the other left soon after.
The increase in registered member the past year is approximately 1000, or so.

tipsy

Add forums as the need arises. If a lot of your members suddenly get the urge to discus 'music related topic' then there may be a demand for a 'music forum'. You can always move topics in there from others.

By the same means, don't be afraid to shut down a dead forum. If nobody has posted there in a month, then you should consider moving the old topics into another forum and closing it.

The 'goal' is to have a fair amount of activity in each forum.

Anthor thing that ive found to work is making a spam forum, it may sound crazy but if you make one then trun off post counts for that forum with a hack (or leave them on its up to you) it will make post for other forums sky rocket.

I agree about the spam forum, though it can be for fun too. I have the playhouse and I find myself posting in there just to blow off steam or test sigs or whatever...

I also make sure that I answer threads in every forum nearly everyday. I hate coming across a thread that someone posted to me directly after it's 4 days old. As a forum owner I feel that I assume a certain amount of responsibility and being attentive to the community is a huge part of that.

I found out the same time as AL that it does help. People can be stupid, and keep it from other forums too. smile

I have a forum for silly/off-topic discussion... never thoght about it being a spam forum, but most posts in there do have at least some value, if nothing else but to keep action moving along smile

that we do.. lol

everyboard has a user who responds to every thread because they think they win a prize for a high post-count or something smile But that is unavoidable.

But I guess It depends on what your target is. If your board is a pokemon board your visitors are probably going to be immature kids so you should have more mods then say a board about muscle cars.

Like I said it depends.

Perhaps that is one of the reasons that the Camaro and the Firebird are going away. Those used to be dream cars for H.S. kids. Guess times have changed.

Kids today are more into mod chipping both their gaming console and their car. Ironically, Japan is starting to bring some of the rally inspired vehicles over to the U.S. to meet the increased demand for tweaked cars.

We can all blame games like Gran Turismo, where you race, earn money then upgrade the components of the vehicle. tipsy
