...

well, no, not really. wink

but has this ever happened to you, where you code something wrong or get into a disagreement with your server company (etc) and you end up getting completely wiped out?

if so, were you able to rebuild? stronger? better than ever, or never quite up to where you used to be?

techniques / tactics?

hmmm.. happened here after we were open only a week or so, having moved the 8 month old site from a host who required us to use banner ads to be hosted there. No one claimed the honors, but I am pretty sure it was the previous hosting company. We started over with backups ~3 months old. Took us lots of work to put it back together but we grew stronger than ever since then.

Recent backups are a must and should be on everyone's mind as part of the required site administration.

Thankfully, it's never happened to me (I get on quite well with f2s and their servers are reliable), but I always make backups roughly every 2 to 3 days, just to be on the safe side.

Yup, moving from Interserver.net to anothe company, Interserver deleted my entire UBB after notifying they had a backup for me. After all was deleted, I called them and asked to email me the backup, and they didn't have it. So I lost about 5 months of posts and over 250 members.

Never has happened to me, and I'm lucky, cause I didn't really start making backups till I changed AnimeGamerz to GamingSphere....Which means I didn't make backups for like...a year. x_x

Happened to me with Ecom. It was brought down to be brought back up a server move but they never did because their backups got corrupted. I can get backups from someone else but need a new server.

It's sad. frown
