Well for starters you learn a programming language (C++ is the most commonly used), then go get the compiler/IDE, and use it [Linked Image]

Perl can be compiled, but there is absolutely no reason to do so. A compiler actually...kinda puts the code together...

vB is terrible. Far to easy from what I have worked with, and boring to boot.

There are no really free ones, you can get one at most computer stores for around $100 (atleast the ones I've looked at) and they come with alot of other stuff to. Like a debugger and a few other things. You can download a few 30 day trial ones but they are junk and you only got 30 days [Linked Image]

Let's all play spot the non-software-engineer [Linked Image]

If you're using linux, get gcc (which you've already got. duh). For windows try lcc if you're into C/C++, blueJ if you're into java or turbo pascal if that's your preference. Email more if you want specific URLs or guidence.

Just a thought [Linked Image]

you know what's REALLY boring? True Basic. Ouch ouch ouch is it boring.

OK, so I may have only heard about it 3 weeks ago, and worked with it about as long, but I still don't think there are any practical applications for it.

OUCH!
Visual Basic is the worst programming lang. i ever TRIED to use. It is even worse than a ASP bulletin board system.
C++ is better, yet not as easy as VB.
As for the non software engineer, i guess, cal? No no, Badger! I WIN!
LCC is the way to go for C++
Any more?
