I recently saw a news line on www.ubbhackers.com that said that if a pirated ubb is found, it will be reported. Well, I am a UBB lover myself, and I was wondering how to check if a UBB is pirated, so that I can help out Infopop if I see one.

Flare -
While UBB Developers Network does not condone or promote pirated UBB activity in anyway, we are also not in the business of witch hunting. We will only report a pirated UBB if the developer attempts to either promote the site here or enters one of our contests with it.
Secondly, InfoPop has a special email address (which I don't know off-hand) to report such UBBs.
Flare, I strongly suggest that you keep the old adage in you mind when considering such actions: "Mind your own business." Trust me, it will pay off in the end.

As much as i respect DB's opinion in this, i strongly disagree. I, as a person, report pirated ubb's as i see them. Sure, i dont go hunting for them, if i find them, they go. well, just look at it as a developer. u develop one of the most used peices of software on the internet today, spending days on coding, just to have some guy(or girl) STEAL it from right under your nose. I'm sorry but I'd be pretty pissed. or look at it from the consumers standpoint. u shell out big bucks to own a peice of software legit just to have the competing website get it for free. once again i'd be pretty pissed. and yeah, the email is [email protected] , I've done my share of ratting in my day. ![[Linked Image]](https://ubbdev.com/ubb/smilies/smile.gif)

So what's the answer to the original question? How can you tell a pirated UBB from one that isn't? ------------------ Neal 'Thradar' Ulen Webmaster www.gamerforums.net www.moviefanonline.com

i don't think there is a way. I've never hunted for one thou. just get freindly with the guy than ask him some questions about his account. like how much he paid, when his update access is up... how long he's had the forums, stuff like that.
confessions are the best waqy to tell.

Please note that while I can fully speak for the staff as a whole, I cannot and will not speak for individuals. If MasterMind chooses to take actions (which is perfectly fine,) then that's his decision. - DB

Oh but not shame on them for running pirated boards in the first place....

I agree to some points... I would not become someones friend, just to tattle on them... that is just messed up... but if I just see one, I think I would... I mean, think about it this way:
You either tell on them, and get them in trouble, which would probably be that they end up having to pay for their board, or you don't, piracy runs wild, and InfoPop loses tons of money... now, I would have to side w/ InfoPop here.
Yes - nobody has answered my question yet. How do you tell?

There are a few ways of telling, none of them very accurate: 1) They tell you 2) They ask you for a recent version 3) The board has just opened and they're using a very old verion 4) They don't know what you mean by Members Area If you report someone, ip first check to see if they do have a license. Nine times out of ten, nothing happens.
