in your experiences, what is the better term to be labeled - a geek, or a nerd? as far as i understand, a geek dresses "nerdier" than a nerd, but isn't as smart. a nerd is someone who is smart, yet still dresses with little regard to their self image. so what's better, being a geek or being a nerd? ------------------ parallel parking job------------------

a geek sounds much cooler. when I think nerd I think of a classmate who barfed all over the stairs in elementry school (among other things, especially his glasses). Not a category anyone would want to be in. ------------------ a nothing thing

Geek is definitely better, it just means you are smart and into technology more than the average person. The geeks will run the world eventually. Nerd, is pretty much the same as "dork". You live on the fringe and almost pride yourself in being an "outcast" or uncool... the nerds will clean the world, eventually... ![[Linked Image]](https://ubbdev.com/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif) You can be both, one, or neither... I consider myself a jock/ wanna-be geek... ![[Linked Image]](https://ubbdev.com/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif) ------------------ Allen - http://www.stand318.com

no, no, no!
geeks aside, the distinction must be drawn between nerds and dorks. A nerd is someone who takes a particular hobby or interest to the extreme. A dork is someone who's socially withdrawn, either by choice or because he/she is just a little too weird.
The term "nerd" is usually reserved for people into computers, or technology. But you can be a movie nerd (people who know every actor's name and their resume), a car nerd (people who sit around talking about engines, and can tell a car's year and model just from looking at the windsheild), and a sports nerd (people who sit around and talk sports all day, know all players from different leagues, and can tell you who won a championship from any given year). Often times, sports nerds are more into sports than computer nerds are into computers, but society tells them that their obsession is more acceptable. That's not true. Just compare one of America's biggest computer nerds (Bill Gates) to one of America's biggest sports nerds (???). Who's actually more sucessful?
What I hate is when people confuse computer nerds with internet nerds. I'm the latter, and just because my hobby involves sitting at a computer, does not make me in love with it. Don't you hate when a family member calls you everytime their computer has a problem? Do I have "repair man" written on my forehead? As long as a computer has a modem, I don't give a damn how much memory is in it or what brand of motherboard it's using.

I'm more of what you'd call a "freak." No, not at work where I have to dress normal.
