Scriptkeeper went through a "few" changes today, upgrading to version 6 beta 5, and as promised, Ted spoke about the changes and new features that will be coming with the pending release Jan 31. click here You might want to change your bookmarks for SK as well, it is now: http://www.scriptkeeper.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi They are going to be working through the bugs, getting ready for public release, so please be patient as IP brings a revolutionary change to the UBB line of forum software. ------------------ Allen - http://www.stand318.com

Looks pretty good, but it won't be any fun without some modifications ![[Linked Image]](https://ubbdev.com/ubb/smilies/smile.gif) and they might not be around for a few weeks at least. Oh well, it still looks cool. ------------------ http://www.zeldaglitches.com

Damn! Thats not very impressive. On Infopop I see its UBB 6 beta5 now. I can see all the Forums but when I click on a Forum (any forum) I get a message you are not Authorized to view this Forum. I thought maybe they have it setup where one must login. So I logged in and still no go. Maybe they made all the Forums Private for now ![[Linked Image]](https://ubbdev.com/ubb/smilies/smile.gif) . I donno if its a bug. Maybe someone should ask them "Did you chmod the files?" "Did you upload them in ASCI?" ![[Linked Image]](https://ubbdev.com/ubb/smilies/wink.gif) . I hope they have it up soon, I am real excited to move on to UBB6. This message has been edited by NightSong on January 19, 2001 at 08:13 PM

ubb version 6 beta 5 is really nice, but i am wondering, if upgrading works, because of the member files. i have installed in my board the custom user text mod, which writes some extra lines in the members .cgi files. aren't there any "hack attempts" if the number of the member fields aren't right? ------------------ greetz h4p3 OC Austria | www.overclockers.at

I believe we may have it tomorrow, Atom911 and JohnM are working on it now... You should see what v6 does to our member profiles here... ![[Linked Image]](https://ubbdev.com/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif) Everybody's custom user text is displayed as their "publically displayed name" ![[Linked Image]](https://ubbdev.com/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif) ![[Linked Image]](https://ubbdev.com/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif) Some are pretty funny, to say the least. ![[Linked Image]](https://ubbdev.com/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif) BTW, went from 15 profile fields as standard to something like 32... a big jump for sure, but you will soon see what they are for, very useful. ------------------ Allen - http://www.stand318.com

Let me give you all a piece of advice or two about member fields. Let's start with some known facts. There was no standardization amoung extra fields hacked into your boards. Obviously, eh? UBB6 comes with many new fields, including the AIM field and 4 optional fields that you can configure. UBB6 does not take into account any of your hacks or extra fields. As reported if they are not overwritten they sure will appear funny. Based on the above facts it seems to me the brightest idea would be for UBBdev and it's patrons to all get their heads together and do the following: Come up with a base map of the new members data. Come up with a plan for standardization of future hacks. Be ready ahead of time. Have a facility so someone can reserve a field number for the hack they are writing. Everyone uses only the field that is reserved for their hack(if their hack even needs a members field, most don't). Become a clearing hourse of sorts. Assign fields on first come first served. Of course no hacker anywhere will ever be indebted or required to check in, sign up and be assigned a field, but think how smart it would be for anyone doing a hack to do so. Going this route would get any hacker exposure, wouldn't it? And less headaches down the road? In return, UBBDev would gain exposure too. Make an agreement of sorts that anyone signing on and being assigned a field would have to allow you to distribute their hacks(but not exclusively perhaps?). Suggestion also... leave some room for future Infopop growth so you don't have to do this again ![[Linked Image]](https://ubbdev.com/ubb/smilies/wink.gif) Next come up with a script that would be used before upgrading UBB5 to UBB6 that strips and cleans the members data to pristine 5.47d conditions so that the data can be imported cleanly into UBB6 and then any new hacks applied would follow the field guidlines as mentioned above. This script would allow all of these people to have a fresh clean start with no headaches about messed up members data. Think about it and develope it. This is the best place to discuss it, right here. Your future as a group and as a sucessful website can be broadened significantly if you do this right. I've been thinking a lot about where this website can go. I'll be making a few suggestions now and then if you don't mind. ------------------ "There is no spoon"
Picture perfect penmanship here.

Thank you Navaho for the excellent input. You are always welcome here... We have begun something like what you are discussing, tho we haven't gotten very far in it yet, lots to do and not a lotta time... several projects keeping us busy, mainly our v6 upgrade in the next week... ![[Linked Image]](https://ubbdev.com/ubb/smilies/wink.gif) Profile fields are being mapped out, and we have a couple of projects underway to make use of them, mainly to deal with the changes brought on by v6. I'll leave detailed discussion of our other project to borg, he has been working on a "centralized modification repository" for several months now, and we are finally giving him the backing to get it done. Basically, it involves utilizing a perl program he is working on to simplify installation of modifications on the ubb without the need for bits and pieces of actual ubb code being distributed. This part is in reference to our earlier email discussions. Your suggestion for "assigning" profile fields takes it a step further and would probably help a great deal in the future, especially in regards to upgrades to the basic code. Thanks for stopping by, we are always open to suggestions, especially from someone with your experience in the field. Stay tuned for our update next week, I really think you'll like it. ------------------ Allen - http://www.stand318.com

this isnt following the last posts, but im bound to make a "user defined graemlins" already. my users WILL ask me for this. about the members files, i can do a script that will get all lines from line 16 to the end of the file and create a different backup member file in another directory, with not much of a trouble. ill be posting this here, just in the case someone needs it besides me. ------------------ it's a matter of time and knowledge

I'm already working on the extra memberfields issue. Not having the UBB6 code it's difficult, but I'm hoping to be able to put the AIM field in the right place, and the Custom user text into Custom Field 1. ------------------ JohnM - moderator of server side scripting

Do you mean line 15? v5 member files only go to line #15 if blank.

Then shouldn't it be line 14 or 15? User name is 0, allow mass email is 14. If I understand right, profile field #16 is custom user text here, and publically displayed user name in v6.

CC, are you saying it backs up what? It makes a full backup of your member file(s) and creates new member files with just the essential profile for v5 left (user name to allow mass email)? ------------------ Allen - http://www.stand318.com

yup unless you are using one of UBB's default member file lines with a hack, the 15 essential member lines (0-14 if you wish), to put Avatars or whatever, this will do just that. is this too stupid o_O? k second script: deletehacklines.pl This should be used only after the succesfully remove of the hacks that use member file lines from the board. http://banco.jogosonline.com.br/ubbmods/deletehacklines.txt Close your forum, download all member files (make backup of them), download this script, change file name to .pl, upload to ubb cgi folder, chmod 755 it, run it from the browser and pray. I suggest using this by the time you are upgrading your forum to ubb 6. This have been tested using another folder, and this can be set changing the folder at line 56 of the script (create it first). I changed the filename from "fromline16delete.pl" to "deletehacklines.pl" so to not confuse this with the other script. edit: taking out this note.. "do not use it with ubb 6!".. Hey,
Just wondering if anyone has used CC's script yet ?
I need to clean out my avatar line (the only added profile field I have)
This is just what I was after.
Because I don't really want to go thru the laborious process of taking out the avatar mod I was going to run your script just prior to uploading the new UBB6 files upon release, and then the new files would totally wipe out the avatar mod for me.
Would I be correct in thinking this should work fine ?

Hey CC, I hope you don't mind this but I just want to clarify what this does exactly.... By changing line 56 to a new directory called Members2 for example.... Running the script would edit out all added profile fields in the members files and then save the editted files to Members2 whilst leaving the original Members directory intact ? Thx ![[Linked Image]](https://ubbdev.com/ubb/smilies/smile.gif)

You are welcome Alien ![[Linked Image]](https://ubbdev.com/ubb/smilies/smile.gif) (hey i stole that lastpost image from your site man ![[Linked Image]](https://ubbdev.com/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif) ) Just adding a note for both scripts. They will print a message in the browser everytime they cant find a member file. This list may be very big if you have a huge member database. To override this, just cut this line from the script you are using print "couldnt open member $member file. member might have been deleted (by the administrator) "; By the time the script ends, it will print the total members your forum have (the one shown in Ultimate.cgi), the number of total files created/modified, and the last user number of the database. Apparently theres a bug in my forum, because the number of members is 771, and there were only 766 member files. If something like this happens with you, check the number of member files you have on your member database, im almost sure the number will be equal to the number of created/modified files. edit: sorry if i couldnt explain better what those scripts did.. i have to work out on my english.. ------------------ it's a matter of time and knowledge This message has been edited by CopyCat on January 26, 2001 at 05:53 PM

CC, Just wanted to let you know that your script works great ![[Linked Image]](https://ubbdev.com/ubb/smilies/smile.gif) I've just been testing it on a copy of a backup of my forums which I test on a local apache server, and it worked perfectly ![[Linked Image]](https://ubbdev.com/ubb/smilies/smile.gif) Only thing I found puzzling was that renaming the Members line as mentioned in one of the above posts and created a directory called Members2 didn't make the script copy the newly modified member files go to that dir. Instead copying straight over my original member files. Though I guess thats because my members directory has to actually be copied and renamed Members2 ? Then in the control panel set Members2 as my members directory ? ![[Linked Image]](https://ubbdev.com/ubb/smilies/smile.gif) Thanks again, that's gonna save me heaps of time just as soon as I get the guts to upgrade to 5.47d then 5.60 ![[Linked Image]](https://ubbdev.com/ubb/smilies/biggrin.gif) TotalNewbie

its not renaming the folder, is creating another one insinde of it, and addind it to the line i told you... .) do like this: create "backup" folder inside Members folder. then change this if( open (FILE,">$MembersPath/$member.cgi") ){ for this if( open (FILE,">$MembersPath/backup/$member.cgi") ){ ------------------ sleeplessThis message has been edited by CopyCat on January 28, 2001 at 05:00 PM
