Howdie everyone. In a couple of weeks I will be buying my first ever UBB licence. I have quite a lot of experiance in posting on quite a few different boards but I think now is the time to start up my own board. First off, how much web space does it require for a medium ish size UBB. I know initially I wont be getting too much traffic to my site but I really want to know how much so that the amount I get will last me quite some time (IF the UBB takes off). Also how hard is the customisation of boards such as inserting of hacks, customised graphics ect? Because I dont have a UBB yet I cant see the code for it and so it is a little difficult to find out. I do have some programming experiance but nothing really web based (all I know is the basics of HTML). I wasnt really too sure which forum to post this on so if this is the wrong one please tell me and I will remove it. Thanks very much

The UBB can take hundreds of megs, if you allow it. Assume that you need one meg for 200 threads.. this is generally true for UBB5. UBB6 is different, but we'll tackle that later. You'll probably want about 50 megs of space to start with. If you run low, you can purchase more from your host, or prune threads from your UBB. (Or clear the cache in UBB6...) Customized graphics and styles are built in features of the UBB board, and are generally very simple to set up. Installation of hacks can range from simple to difficult, depending on your ability to follow directions and the ability of the hack author to properly document the hack. Knowing Perl (or another C-like programming language) helps. ------------------ Liam: "...The only part I can't get to work is the actual equation: Poisson(X) = (A^X x e^-A)/X!" Tim: "You've a mathematical function named w/ the French word for fish?" -- as overheard on Flare.
UBB.classic: Love it or hate it, it was mine.

Crikey, that was quick. Thanks very much for the advise. No doubt I will be around these parts for a while as soon as I get my UBB up and running. From what I have seen around these different boards/databases here, you guys here are really helpful to newbies like me. I would like to congratulate everyone here on building up a great and helpful community. Many thanks once again

Welcome to UBBDEV! The Basics of UBBUBB can be a job, hobby, or a part of your site and can be very successful if you let it. Start out with 50 megs, then I suggest moving to the hundreds (100+) when things move up. Many hosts have ALOT of space for a cheap price. Check our web hosting forum for more information. You'll Get SupportUBBDEV offers support if you go through the proper channels. Styles and graphics are easy and almost begginner based in UBB. Ask in our styles forum Customize itUBB allows for easy customization by installing 'hacks'. Hacks are easy and some are hard. We are here to help if you post for help in the right forum! -mm ------------------ Modification Developer of the Ultimate Bulletin Board Due to time limitation, I do not offer support Via.
