i posted it here.

i pay waaaaaaay to much for a server for a kid my age (i'm 14)
so i want to setup my own server running off my computer. now...how would i go about this?
i know i need to install linux, but what else?
do i really need a cable or DSL hookup to run a server? i know those companies that sell cable and DSL connections achieve that speed somehow, but how? i could ask a 100 questions but i don't wanna bug you guys. i just need to know how to get it up and running the rest i can figure out.

you don't need Linux, but you will need to install Microsoft's Personal Web Server. you'll also have to leave your connection up all the time if you expect people to be able to access your site.

and, sad to say, but hosting off of a 56k connection is a bad idea.

yes i know, i've tryed microsofts personal web server before....but linux is sooo much more securitive than windows.

to be honest with you, i don't know how to set up a server in linux. i can tell you how to do it in win98/nt/2k, tho.

i assume you mean secure? i'm not aware of any security holes in PWS. any system (windows or unix) can be secure or insecure if you know what you're doing.
