I am not sure at 100% but I think it will be an easy way to implement hacks on the board and thus add more features.

Since not everybody needs all functions, people will be able to choose the ones the want and just add them in a couple clicks.

Am I right guys or did I just write 2 sentences of non sens ? smile

The future of UBB Hacking lies in self installing hacks, and self uninstalling hacks. Kind of like Modules for perl, they are improvements, or additions added to the UBB.

Isn't it something like that?

I think there are people like Mastermind that knows the answer to this.
I have seen mention of self installing hacks but you wont see them till 6 is out of beta.

Look here at Charles' page and you may get an idea of what a Module is.

The article gives a basic overview of what the Module and Plugin structure will be able to do.

I'm currently working on technical documents that will describe, in detail, what Modules and Plugins are, what they can do, and why they will kick serious rear end.

A good bit of functionality depends on cooperation with Infopop, but I believe that will work out fine, given the proper pitch. (Don't ask me how I know this, I can't tell you until late March... :))

charles, do you think there will be many more features added besides the ones that already exists?

i mean, actually i may be underestimating the creative ppl out there (O_o? not my intention), but there are some real popular features already on the 'market'. do you think there will be alot of new features as useful and basic created, such topic hits counter and memberslist?

i know there are people that dont want to use this features (maybe because of how they were made; or because they dont want to mess up the code, or they just dont wanna use it), but it makes me wonder what else so fundamental can people make in the future. fundamental in my opinion, by the way.

Your post is very vague, CopyCat...

Of course, dozens of new features and methods of doing things will be developed by the community.

Just as it is today, only a handful of people will find each particular module/plugin useful.

For instance, I absolutely hate user avatars and think they're nearly as bad as signature images, but others find them absolutely wondeful. Are avatars needed in the UBB? I don't think so, but others do.

In other words, I can't answer your question because it answers itself. smile

actually, i dont think the avatar is fundamental, and i personally dont like it too much either, like you said. its a matter of who your public is, imho (my users asked me for the avatars). i was talking about those two in my earlier post, and some others. im expecting someone can come and say that they dont like one of those two.

i really think there would be few people that wouldnt use that options, if they were in the code, with the corresponding config options for them.
