UBB.Developers Forums General Discussion Chit Chat Science experiment

I was sitting and looking thru my UBB, and the thought occured.. A forum is a science experiment!

Okay think about it, you attract members, or "subjects" they slowly form a community, and start to interact, some vie for position, and establish a hirearchy, they form sub groups or "cliques". Now you add more features, or "rewards" if you will, and the subjects react. Some approve, others don't. You choose a color scheme, and attract a certain faction of people. You change it, some leave others join, so in essence you try alternate stimuli, and watch the response.

This truly becomes a microcasm of life as you sit back and watch it evolve, or perhaps wither and die. If the later happens, you seek the knowledge of your peers to help avoid this in the future. Sounds like Science 101 to me.

Yeah, and like a science experiment, sometimes you just throw a spanner in the works to see what happens.

It just seems to me, that this could be a thesis in college, a real human study. Forget biospheres, we have a real petrie dish here.. Take this board for example, most come here for one of three reasons..

1) To enhance their UBB.
2) To obtain answers to a problem with it.
3) To meet others with similar interests..

Much like the watering hole in a jungle, it can be the most "social" place there.. Elsewhere guards are up.. Here it's faceless,
and somewhat anonymous. So people are free to live out their inner desires, or fantasies as it were.

Actually, I come here because there are a lot of intelligent people, which are hard to find, and I randomly learn interesting things, or find interesting links etc, without having to try too hard.
