Does anyone know of any good resources for community buliding "games" or topics?
For example, the place name game in the general conversation area at UBB. It is just a little nonsense game to get people involved. I am looking for more activities like that.

The word association game has been very popular on my board. Alphabet games or the name game using various topics (food, animals, etc.) also works.

I think a Question & Answer thread is indispensable. (Answer a question, leave one for the next person.) This forum on my board is almost nothing but games, has the smallest number of topics but the highest post count. Maybe you can swipe a couple of ideas from there, if you'd like.

Another one - the Caption Competition. Post a picture or image, and ask the users to create a caption for what is being said / being done / going on. This works particularly well at my forums.

On one of the boards we host there is a 3797 post thread.
It was called "whoever gets the last word". the first person posted that title and simply put one word. "wins".
The moderator finally closed it when the server had a small difficulty updating the html pages for it.(95) They started a new one this afternoon, it is already on page 6 I see.
I saw another plenty-page thread where they were playing hangman. Yet another where the object was to be the person that posted the xnumber thread on the xth page.
Picture perfect penmanship here.

Oh, the best thread I ever saw was one called the Inquisition of ......... (I promised not to tell) and it was a riot!
[edit was just informed by (I promised not to tell) that it was Interrogation - oops]
Anyhow it spanned multiple threads.

I have sadistic writers for members on my board. They made the alphabet game a little tougher. Each sentence has to begin with the appropriate letter, and END with the next letter in line. Trust me, it can be tough.

I don't think about it because I'm busy wondering why you spell "navaho" with an 'h' instead of a 'j'
