I was wondering, if I use a old ubb and don't update it. Are people going to say my ubb is pirated? The reason I don't upgrade it is I don't like the newer versions.

A dumb question, but I wanna know smile

You should check with IP to be sure, but as I understand it..

As per IP:

"When you first purchase a UBB, you receive one year of free access to the Members Area. After that free year, however, you must purchase an annual subscription in order to continue to have access. You can purchase access in our UBB Services/Subscriptions Store "

Once upon a time they had the Full License, and a Lease. If you had purchased a Lease you will have to buy a full license to continue using your UBB once it expires.

If you need more info check here

C_P is correct. If you have purchased a full non-expiring license you can run the older version UBB for as long as you'd like. Your license number is proof that you made the original purchase.

ok im just asking you c_p and DEB to go to the 5.4x forumz and look at the cople topics that are closed with only 1 -5 replys and most will have a reply like- your ubb is an old version and hosted at hypermart, oviusly its pirated.

he is saying if he has an old ubb people will say its pirated and yes people will say that they will report you also if you dont have the newer versions.

but if you are reported all you have to do is tell infopop wehn they contactyou your licence info

We understand that piracy is problem (as do many people)... and I have to admit that at times it's frustrating for us here at ubbdev BUT it is Infopops job to approach those users. If someone is installing version 5.45c as a brand new board... when version 5.47e is the latest download... wouldn't you question it in your own mind just a teeny weenie bit?

There are quite a few boards out there that are older versions but the owners hold a valid license. Infopop can check their records to verify that and the problem is solved. Metallifukinca's board has been open for some time now.. it's not brand new... therein lies one of the differences.

We also have this handy-dandy feature where users can actually SEARCH for answers before asking a question. It has been said that it can be very useful at times. wink

Agree with Deb here... sites with new installs of UBB versions prior to ~5.47c are a little suspect... We don't have an official policy on this yet, which is why there has ben some confusion regarding this, we are getting one together tho, so there's a little less talk and a lot more action... smile

To be fair to everyone, we aren't the IPolice, and do plan to let IP handle this as much as possible. Obvious cases will be reported in a heartbeat tho...

All will be much clearer in the next month...

Hmm, well I bought a full licence back in June 2000.
Until now I have not see a upgrade I like, so I will continue using 5.47e.
What am asking is , after June 2001
is my ubb going to be called a " pirated ubb " if I don't upgrade ???

I was told once I bought the ubb , it was mine for life and I had updates for a year...

This is want I'm asking...

Nope, it will NOT be called a prirated board. You purchased a license and can run that version for as long as you'd like. It's yours... but you cannot upgrade after June 2001 without renewing annually.
