Are there any books out there that you would suggest for learning about cgi, with the goal at becoming better at making hacks for the UBB? I have learned quite a bit by looking at the hacks that are out there...but I think it would be better if I could actually get a book that would explain things in more detail. Would a general perl book be good? Would one that focused on cgi be better? Which books would you recommend?

You want to learn Perl - the CGI stuff is secondary. 99% of the interaction you'll do is processing and file IO, not parsing form data (which is taken care of in UBB already), etc...
"Learning Perl" and of course "Programming Perl" are excellent books...
Avoid the For Dummies books, they're terrible.
UBB.classic: Love it or hate it, it was mine.

I have one more question (well actually 2..but they are tied together). Can I install UBB 6 on my win 98SE computer (if I put perl on it)...so I can test out hacks and stuff on my computer. If I can, can I then just upload the hacked files to my Unix server without doing anything different to them (other than setting permissions)?
Thanks again.
