I was wondering, why do some boards still use versions of UBB such as (a lot of boards use this) Ubb 5.47c? Why don't they just upgrade to the newest version?
Just curious....

We ask the same question ourselves a lot of the time...:D

Realistically, a lot of sites just don't know the newer versions are out.. they buy their ubb and don't come back.

Some people invest a lot of time in modifying files and are afraid to upgrade... not so much now since BeyondCompare is around, we added >50 mods to our old v5.45c and upgraded every time a new version came out up through 5.47d... usually within an hour or so of release, a couple of times before the "new version" announcement was made at IP...:D

Some people's license has expired on the version they are running and they don't bother to renew...

Other's had their boards bought for them by a friend who immediately left the country, were run over by a bus, or skipped bail and they can't get their license number from them to upgrade...

oh yeah, forgot one more reason.... there's some e`lan to running an older version...it evokes an air of longevity, having been around for a while - and actually is cool as long as you keep up with the security fixes in the underlying code, which CC has stated in the past that he does... cool

Hey look!

UBB 6.1.0-beta 2 ... nothing really new I can see yet ...

[edit]

* new stuff - custom titles set by admins
* new stuff - template optimization for Netscape
* coming up - "Stay tuned for more exciting changes, such as the ability to post without logging in first."
* coming up - the PM system is going to be changing quite a bit in the next few releases...

[/edit]

Charles,

Speaking of searches, where is the search for the 6.1 beta on your board?

talking about version changes I have to admit I kinda miss the vertical line in the post from the 5 series frown

Charles if you could add this it would really be a MAJOR improvment, who needs who's online anyway ? laugh

Do you believe in love at first sight,

The vertical line MIGHT go back in. Depends on Ted. (I think he was planning it...)

I've turned the search off because I don't have enough disk space, and the search engine SUCKS in its current implementation.
