Ok, I am new to Linux and have a huge UBB system that was just transferd to a new server and I am having internal configuration issues that are above my ability. So I am looking for a Linux person to come in and help resolve them. Willing to pay even ...Steven [email protected]

The system is not allowing certain files to be written to. Example is new forum creation. It is not viewing the forumlist.cgi file nor adding the forum to our approve a forum panel under the admin area.

hola... did you check the permissions of those files to make sure they are allowed to be written to? They may need to be 777, then let your scripts handle the permissions afterwards. The folders themselves may also need the same settings.

Yes, I believe these were the first things looked at. Besides the previous owner I had our head unix guy looking at work looking at it. he wanted to see the httpd.conf file which I just got last night and made a change to the system although it had no bearing on this issue.

forumlist.cgi The ubb has no forumlist.cgi file. Beyond that make sure your permissions and your file ownership is correct.
Picture perfect penmanship here.

HostBoard is *slightly* modified
I called InfoPop and forgot the guys name I spoke with but he was kind enough to telnet to the server and poke around. Got a small gasp on the amount of CGI files and directories. Seems the directory /usr/local/hostboard/mainboard/ubb/ was set at 755 for permissions and he said it should be 777 (the cgi-bin directory is at 777) But this still is not working. Not sure if I should bounce the server after I reset the permissions since it is a few hundred directories (600+) not including files. I chmod -R UBB to recursivly set the permissions. Navaho, sure your couriosity is not peeked to come take a look at what HostBoard has been able to do but from behind the scenes
Anyways same problem and the request for help still goes out to any Linux/Apache gurus that also understand UBB.

Quasic, I appreciate your offer and sorry I was not able to satisfy your request as being a valid UBB system. Hopefully I will hear back from the individuals I have asked to get a copy of the registration number from and we can try again at some point.
