this is something that really makes me confused. shouldnt the PlayStation be called PS? Why people call it PSX then? smile If any wise human being out there know the answer to this, please.. i dont want to carry this question to my grave hehe

when the playstation was frist reported on its rumored/code name was PSX. its easyer to type then Playstation and people got used to it. most gameing mags wont use the term PSX anymore. and now with the PS2 out ive notice most people usein PS1 smile tho im to used to PSX heh

I've heard several different stories; the one Anime-loo said is one of them.

The one I've heard most often, though, is that while the basic Playstation format remained constant, there were actually several different versions of it that shipped at various times, with slightly different hardware/software configurations (ie. if they changed the psx OS code a little bit). The Dual-Shock package was one of the "major" revisions, or so I heard, for example. Thus, the letter X attachment was meant to denote "all versions" of the PS, or something like that.

Heh, speaking of that, I remember back when PS2 rumors were first coming out, there were a bunch of people in my neck of the woods at least who were calling it PSY... smile

The only part I could figure out was PS-Playstation, but why the X? PS2 stands for Playstation 2. And the PS One (The smaller version of PS) would be called PS1. Confusing...
