Read this from my host: "PHP (officially "PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor") is a server-side HTML-embedded scripting language. It is extemely popular to use with mySQL and other databases. Domain Hosting is currently offering PHP version 3.0.9 and 4.0.3pl1. PHP 4.0.3pl1 is currently installed as a CGI binary, while PHP 3.0.9 is compiled into Apache. Below are the paths to PHP version 4.0.3pl1: /usr/bin/php4 For backwards compatibility, PHP 3.0.6 is also available in: /usr/bin/php And PHP 3.0.9 is also available in: /usr/local/php/php3.0.9" So that means I can't use the PHP accelorator thing..

hmmm.. you can use the php part with 4.0.3, you just won't be able to use the zlib compression. I don't understand these companies that use such old software on their web hosting servers. The newer stuff is more stable and less memory intensive.

THe problem is that php4 will only be recognized if you give it a .cgi ending and then put a shebang line to php4 at the top of the file then you can use php4...

Well, it would be nice for the time being. I think I need to find a new host because I think they are really screwing me over here. I just asked them about upgrading real soon and waiting for word back.

Wouldn't hurt to try to use PHP4 and a binary. Probably wont be much effective, but..

put a mapping in your .htaccess filoe to map .php to the php4 binary (you'll be able to use zlib if it's installed)
