I was wondering how to format a HD on Windows 2000. I tried using a boot disk from 95. Skorp was trying to help me, but it wouldn't recognize my C drive..

Download a windows 2000 boot disk, boot and type format c:

Simple?

and you can find them in /bootdisks on the cd.

Hang on just a second here. I can't understand what you want to do. Do you want to format a drive from within 2000, or do you want to format a drive from DOS?

And if you want to format from DOS, were you trying to format as FAT(32) or NTFS? Any other information that you provide would be helpful, as you didn't say very much in your initial post.

Get Partition Magic

If you just want to format a secondary hard drive within windows 2000, all you have to do is right click on the drive, scroll down to format, and it will even give you the option of what file format you want to use.. ie, NTFS, FAT32 and such....

I want to delete the partition, and then format with a NTFS file system..

I would get Partition Magic except for the fact is I don't want to buy it. It would be easier just to know how to do it.

boot the computer from CDROM... start win 2000 installation... select new installation (I dont remember the install part exactly, if there is an automatic and custom part, select custom). Select the partition you want to install. Format it as a FAT partition. After formatting, boot with win9x startup disk and do what you want

or... just format the partition as NTFS and forgot win9x startup disk

Make a Win98 boot disk using a different machine, then use it to boot the computer that you need to format. Then run FDISK and delete all the partitions that are there. All you have to do next is use the 2000 boot disks (there's 4 of them) and then follow the setup prompts.
