I like it im not sure what I would use it for (besides pluging an iPod), but it would look really good in my desk.

The base price they're asking is a little expensive, in my opinion, but I think that this should turn out to be an excellent machine.

I love it. Since OS X was released I've really wanted to get hold of it. I really want a better OS experience than I get with Win2K & XP, but I don't need a power computer like the G4 towers. The iMac was just about perfect for what I wanted except for the 15" CRT was just too small. However, the 15" LCD (roughly 17" CRT equiv.) is just the right size for me.

The only thing I use Windows for anymore is Quicken, and hey, there's Quicken for the Mac. I'll probably convert my Linux box (what I'm typing on now) to a file server and use it to serve MP3's to the iMac. My plans also possibly include getting the 14.1" iBook later on and using it on a wireless network.

I've got the iMac in my capital budget for this year, and I hope to be able to purchase one before the summer. Then I can completely dump my MS and live carefree.

The new iMac looks great to me. Too bad I can't afford it, and by the time I could, there'll be at least a G6

I don't think I've seen it.
Any links to a pic of it?

apple.com

Its a nice machine, saw it at Macworld. I've always been a PC buff, but i never had anything against macs. Especially since its using BSD and the hardware is nice too. Its good on my list!

I love the look and the small size of it, but it is expensive, and I've got a huge desk for my PC right now and it would look a little bare. I've never used a mac before either so I'm not sure what it would be like. Cool design though.

Not too bad really. I *HAVE* to use an IMac on one of desktops at work. I prefer a PC though. This doesn't look all that bad, and they have finally put some fairly decent hardware in a Mac.

It's still a worthless propritary POS to me, but obviously some people like 'em. wink

Same, I've never used one too. Are they that much different?

I've used OS9 and OS X on some friends' computers and from a user standpoint they really aren't any different than Windows PC's. The difference obviously comes in from a core or system level. Configuring a Mac OS is quite a bit different from a Windows config IMHO.

I've never owned an Apple computer, but I've been untrigued with them for a while.

I did think about getting a "cube" just because it was cool looking, but this one is pretty cool in its own right.

I was already planning on getting an lcd for my desktop, but maybe I'll just pick one these instead for the heck of it. I especially like the idea of the DVD burner, and the design is really elegant.

Probably. You've just never done any content creation before.

Head up their donkey? Yeah, right... This is your last warning about the swearing. There's no need for it, and we don't allow it.

I'm sure you're not, but I hope that opinion is based on actual ownership. If you've never owned one, then I don't see how you could really know whether they suck or not.

I've used OS9 and I didn't like it all that much, and found I was having just as many problems as I had on my Windows boxes. However, with OS X things are vastly improved, and IMHO it beats all current versions of Windows (from an OS standpoint). I also use Linux, and I think OS X beats it too, mainly from a user interface perspective.

For me its not so much the hardware, but the OS and available software. Everything I do with computers I can do with OS X. Of course, there are people who think PC's are toys and just use them for gameplay, and yes, I agree those people probably wouldn't like Macs that much.

My opinion on Macs..

I really don't like them personally. But from what I've heard they're good for graphic design and such. But, i can't do graphics, so thats no an upside to me. They also have very few games available for them, compared to a PC. I'd miss out on too much.

I'm not really back. I went away again.

Let's keep this thread on topic. We were discussing the new iMac and how well Macs in general do with content creation (video, imaging, sound, etc.).
